Swamphunter
What is the funniest thing that happened to you or your family over the holiday? Here is mine.. While sitting at my father and mothers house opening gifts, my mother drew our attention to my father opening a gift from her. We knew it was something very special as she made motions to watch and get ready with a camera. My father has had a rough time with his health over the past few years, and now is doing much better (knock on wood). We see my fathers eyes well up with tears as he takes a very expensive looking masculine gold chain out of a box. Everyone at a loss for words, even the kids being quiet as their Grandpa tried to regain his composure, my 35 year old brother shouts out "DIBBS"!!! I got DIBBS!!" Making reference to my aging Dad and that awesome gold chain. We all started laughing, even my father, as we all know how much my brother and all the family loves our Dad, and how out of character something like that being said in our family circle is. It just really lightened the mood. We all had a great laugh several times throughout the day about that joke. I have a second one I'll post later after some others share some stories. fly
Sounds like you have a great family there! Sounds like one of those moments that makes it all worth it. Nothing that heart felt happened at my house, but there is a long standing joke that I have to endure EVERY year! Every Christmas (and some Thanksgivings) I fry a turkey and have the usual crew come over who make fun of my turkey carving. This year was no exception. It started the moment I made the first cut this year. "What are you doing to that bird Frank". "How long is he going to take this year." "You can butcher a deer, but when it comes to turkey...." Well about 30 seconds into it I attempt to hand off the knife and fork to a heckler and they all move back and give some lame excuse like: "It's your house man, you gotta carve it." I endure the comments until finally there is enough meat on the plate for them to get in line and start eating. Everyone is generally finished and throwing away their plates by the time I can finally eat. Of course my wife then points out the trash needs emptying. As I take out the trash I endure more comments like "That turkey was really good, when it was hot (more laughter)." Funny how some traditions never die. Next year we'll have pizza. Michiganbowhunter_SQ2
First I gotta I have you a little info from a week ago. My younger cousin (age 9) decided he was going to peek in his mom and dads closet to see what he was getting. He had only seen one thing, but his conscience got a hold and he confessed the whole thing to his mom, by the time he was done telling her what he had done, he was in tears. What he had seen was a Start Wars Monopoly game for him and his younger brother (age 6) (but he didn't tell his brother about it and ruin it for him). Well my aunt decided to bring the game over to our house, since they come over on Christmas Day and we exchange gifts with them. That way he would be a bit surprised when they finished opening their gifts at home and it wasn't there. Well they come over, we exchange gifts and stuff, and then I go and grab the game and tell them Santa left it here for them by mistake. They both opened it together, and the look on their faces was priceless. It was like something you'd see in a funny movie, the way their jaws dropped, and simultaneously turned and looked at each other and then back at the game. Was something that we'll remember for a long time. Star Wars Geeks, sheesh :D We are heading to my grandparents house tomorrow to celebrate Christmas, the weather was to bad to do it on Christmas Eve. I'm sure I'll have a handful of stories to add to this thread. And some that won't be appropriate :D
NS whitetail
hehehe My son was 4 in Sept. and he loves collecting the tags off of loaves of bread , one of my wife's friends gave him a little baggie full of them in one of his presents from her. It was the first gift that he opened. He was excited about the bread tags and even took the time to go put them in his container that he keeps them in before touching another present we thought that was funny, most kids just rip and tear at the gifts like mad men
The_Kat
Funny you ask.........My whole family was sitting in my grandparents living room visiting with each other after opening gifts. My grandpa was asking me about work as he relaxed in his lazy boy. Well as we were talking my LOUD uncle phillip was talking to my dad about something. The way we were setting had us making an "X" with our conversations...So as grandpas talking to me he was having trouble hearing me, so out of habit of muting the TV when it was too loud to talk, he started trying to mute it. Well needless to say the TV was NOT ON, and he was trying to mute phillip and didn't even realize it! I laughed so hard, and once everyone caught on it was gut busting laughter for at least 5 minutes. Grandpa didn't stop laughing for at least
