VermontHunter
When in doubt ask the pros .. I've recently acquired a new Nikon 3x9x40 BDC Scope for my Muzzeloader. ( Yeah LUCKY me .. ) I like to make sure all of my scopes have Butler Creek Scope Covers on them but with all of the checking if done online I can't seem to find what size I need .. Is there any one of you experience pros out there have the answer ?? I would definitely appreciate some help here .. Or is this scope too new as yet ?? Thanks, Luke
str8shooter48
I'm assuming your looking for the flip open covers. The best advice I can give you is to measure the outside diameter of both your eye piece and your objective lens. Then use the chart below from Butler Creek. Good Luck http://www.butlercreek.com/productsImages/charts/flip_scope_chart.html
str8shooter48
I knew I seen this someplace. Kind of bored after watching another Bills loss so I did a little leg work for you. Look at the bottom of the page under you might also need. If your scope is an Omega go here: http://www.midsouthshooterssupply.com/item.asp?sku=001258401 If its a prostaff: http://www.midsouthshooterssupply.com/item.asp?sku=001256320 If its a Buckmaster: http://www.midsouthshooterssupply.com/item.asp?sku=001256421

wtnhunt
Good luck with the butler creek caps Luke. Maybe it is just me, don't know, but I have busted 2 sets on my scope on my .270. The caps just would not stay closed for me with my rifle slung on my shoulder, and once open they hang on limbs if you walk through any kind of brush and snap off. Kind of defeats the purpose. I have the same problem with mine too. I think the rubber gets dried out after a while and they don't snap as tight.
VermontHunter
Hhmm, interesting I haven't a single problem with any of my scope covers from Butler Creek ... What do you guy's use to protect the scope lens from dust and especially outdoor elements, such as snow and rain ?? Using the factory covers that came with my scope to carry to and from the stand on my .270 Luke.
PA_RIDGE_RUNNER
I had a most likely once in a lifetime bad experience. We had about 10 inches of snow on the ground and snow squalls adding a little more. The temp was very low and also had some wind. My eyes tend to water in those conditions. I had been on stand for only about an hour and a nice 5 point buck sneaked in behind me. I tried to flip the scope cover but it would not budge. I actually sighted down the barrel and shot but missed. The deer ran about 60 yds and stopped by that time I looked down to see what was wrong. A tear had hit the hinge and froze it in place I got it open and was just coming down on the 5 point and it took off and ran down the mt. I was sick. I then got my handkerchief out and covered the scope. Half hour later here comes the same deer. Dropped it with one shot. I also have had the front cover flip open on me while carrying on the shoulder. I now use the ones that come with the scope. VermontHunter
Just might be worth looking into the Bikini Cover ... I just can't stand those loose fitting plastic covers the factory sends out with the scope ...
Flintlock1776
My new Leupold came with a full scope cover. I will have the gunsmith add scope covers, likely Butler Creek, I don't recall. The ones you can see thru without flipping them up in case you had to take a fast shot. I think they do get loose over time. Just suppose I'll have to get replacements when needed.
