Doc
I'm a bit confused. I bought a box of 20 rounds of Remington .223 cartridges Factory fresh right out of the box from Bass Pro. I shot up 10 of them before my brother-in-law said, "look at these primers". Half of them were silver colored and half were brass colored. What's up with that?? They are either a mixture of manufacturers, or something. By the way, they really didn't group all that well either. What do you suppose is going on? PotashRLS
In all honesty, I have a saying......if it's green, it doesn't go in my gun. The only Remington ammo I ever shoot are low-brass game loads and thats only if I can't find Federal or Winchester.
wtnhunt
Have shot a lot of remington core lokt ammo and never seen that.
Strut10
Sounds like a question for Remington Customer Service to me.

bluelund79
Was it the Remington Core Lokt or the UMC ammo? I looked at both in my 223 box and haven't seen anything like what you descibed, and there is alot of ammo in that box! Did you buy more than 1 box from the same place with the same problem? Did those fire any differently. Honestly speaking, as long as they go bang and where you aimed, does it really matter the color of the primer? EricF
I have three boxes of 7mag...they have a mixture of silver and brass colored primers as well. I've fired 1.5 boxes of those over the last month and haven't noticed any fluctuation in accuracy.
OUTSIDER
could it have been the primer sealant they use on those shells??
LifeNRA
Federal was the same way on the last box I bought. It probably has something to do with the price of brass. Making the primers cheaper by using another material for the primers itself. More than likely, you got the box where the manufacture was switching over to the new primers. Which is why you got the mix. Remington's never did well in my Browning 270, compared to Federals. Edited January 9, 2009 by LifeNRA
EricF
could it have been the primer sealant they use on those shells?? In the case of my 7mag rounds....it's definately the color of the actual metal material....no overflow or 'stain' from any chemical or sealer. Doc
I can understand why they might want to occasionally change primers or material or even finishes. What I don't like to see is random mixtures within one box of twenty. At the very least it indicates a mixture of lots. I don't like to see even that kind of sloppiness. Further, if there is a mixture of primer manufacturers, that can have a significant, acknowledged, change in how hot the powder ignition is. That's a variable that can not be real good when you are looking for consistancy, and is a variation that no "reloader would ever permit. So, you would thing factory loads would be even more picky on such things. They sure didn't impress me. Doc
