CampRAGS
I am wondering how accurate those numbers are. A lot of New York hunters are saying it was a very slow year after bow season.
RangerClay
I am wondering how accurate those numbers are. A lot of New York hunters are saying it was a very slow year after bow season. Guess it depends on your region. We had our best year ever in Madison County. Thanks for the heads up Anthony!
Turkeygirl
Archery was excellent, shotgun was really slow...I thought there would have been more of a decrease than it shows.
Doc
In our area, opening day (the most important day of the year in terms of harvest totals), was a complete washout with a rainstorm that lasted nearly the whole day. Shooting was very sparce and most hunters either didn't show up or left early. On the other hand, subsequent days had snow a whole lot earlier than most other seasons which makes the deer a lot easier to see. So I suspect those days were a lot more successful than usual. Also, the snow seemed to draw out a few more hunters than usual later in the season. So, I wouldn't even try to guess how the final tally might have come out. Adjam5
My son Joe and I had the best season we ever had. Our bow season was slow due to the lack of acorns in the area we hunt, but gun season was rockin' for us. Not any big bucks, but we had deer all around us for quite a few days after opening day. I was very happy the youth of the state got to participate in gun season earlier than usual. What amazes me is the amount of DMP tags that are given out and the amount that are filled....or called in:rolleyes:
Illinois59
Good harvest numbers. We hunted in New York this year. We didnt add to the harvest total.

Doc The rain never made it here in central NY till almost 8:30 so we had a couple hours of dry shooting time. There was a lot of shooting around me until the hard rains came. We had a much better day on Sunday (day 2) because the rain had changed to show. We killed three deer.
CampRAGS
I am glad to see that some of you guys had a good season. maybe it was just my turn for a slow season. I shot a six with the bow. More important is that I had a great time hunting with my son and other hunting buddies, that is what it is all about the good times, memories and the friendships that will last forever. Turkeygirl
It was a washout first day of shotgun for us also...we still sat in our stands till 10 or 11....the pouring rain didn't stop the neighbors from unloading their shotguns....I'm interested, come spring, to see how many deer carcasses I find from their careless shooting and lack of tracking ability, especially when it was pouring rain and no snow... donjohnk
I think this year was a better year at the end of the season for me. I didnt get to harvest a doe or buck, but it wasnt that i didnt have the chances. Just couldnt capitalize on em... Hard to shoot deer when your sleeping.... Any1 have those problems...lol.. (just happened once) People I talked to all said it was a very productive year.. The snow helped i think for Southern Zone...

That's about how long I made it. I think it was right around 11:00 when I left my stand and headed home. That was about the time that I realized that my rain-gear just wasn't hacking it anymore. I got the feeling that I was one of the last ones out of the woods. The whole day was absolutely dead quiet with maybe 1 or 2 shots all day long. However, the remainder of the season was great with all the early snow. Doc
