pointing_dogs_rule
Hey guys!! I am not a waterfowl hunter, however, at our turkey banquet last Saturday night they auctioned off a snow goose hunt in northwest Missouri or southwest Iowa, depending where the birds are. A three day hunt for two people plus lodging and food. I actually got it at 1/2 the real price. The outfitter follows the birds from Missouri to North Dakota. He has access to the Swan Lake Refuge in northwest Missouri (this will be open to hunting for the first time this year). He suggests late Feb or the first week in March. Anyone hunt those areas and any suggestions on the best dates (I realize that they move due to weather conditions). I am REALLY EXCITED!!!!! Thanks, the dog

pointing_dogs_rule
Re: bought a snow goose hunt!!! Hey guys!! I am trying to find a friend to hunt with me. There are some interested people. I only have an over-under and a semi-auto 12 guage (modified barrell). Do you think I should ask my friend for his Benelli semi-auto. What size shot and shells do I need??? 3 1/2???? The other part is that I get to bring a kid along (for free). Being single and kidless maybe I can find a kid roaming the streets of town. (LOL)!! Sounds like the last two weeks of Feb and first week in March are ok according to you guys. Do you think my Wirehaired Pointing Griffons can retrieve these big birds??? (LOL)!!! Thanks for all of your help. the dog
clayman
Re: bought a snow goose hunt!!! If it's a modified choke then it's ok. If the birds are decoying, you won't need 3 1/2 inch shells, but if your gun is chambered for them then it wouldn't hurt. You'll want shot sizes of BB or BBB. Some guys like T shot, but you don't need it. I prefer BBB myself.
