Swamphunter
The NY City thread got me thinking, lets all share a few pics of what the area we live in looks like. I don't want everyone that is not familiar with NY State think it is nothing but city life. This first one is across the road from my house, within shouting distance. The guy in the pic is a neighbor of mine. This pic was taken at Barnhart Island, just 4 or 5 miles from my front door. This one of the mighty St. Lawrence River is within walking distance of my house. This next pic was taken by me, less than a mile from my home, and is another of the St. Lawrence River This picture was out my front door across the golf course looking toward the St Lawrence River. The fog rising is off the water on a -21 degrees below zero day, without wind chill factored in. Another pic of the river, a mile down the road from my house, during the winter. jbeck
Lots of room, no neighbors in site. This is the woods I hunt, 80 yards from the back door. The juniata river is about 150 yards from the house, good smallmouth fishing. 25,000 people in the county. 4 red lights in the county. 1 school district in the county, and everyone knows almost everyone. I love small town america.

My area is rich with Revolutionary war history. I'll get some pics.

Turkeygirl
Well around where I live: We have Whitetail deer, lol. This was during turkey season one early morning. We have lots of farm fields around my house, mostly owned by one big time farmer. I took this during the summer, across the road from our house: There's a place called Hanging Bog which is a part of the WMA that camp sits on, it's about 15 minutes from my house, 5 minutes from camp. It's a kettle bog I believe they call it, with a floating mat, and it has Pitcher Plants growing on the mat which are endangered/protected. And back home at my house, we get some pretty nice sunrises and sunsets. This was a sunrise looking off our back porch.
buckee
The Comox Glacier is a landmark sight around here, which is very beautiful from the farm I hunt. The sunrises are awesome and the fishing is great

Adjam5
I was out on a mission this morning taking pics as I went out for bagels. It is currently 18 degrees with the wind chill about balmy 5. We are very rich in Revolutionary war history here. This what Gen Washington would see today...A nuke. Indian Pt. Our backyard...40 miles from NYC. The stocked by the state(browns and rainbows) crick:D is a tributary to the Hudson River. Last but not least, the MOST significant thing in my life. My family. RangerClay
Because Swampy and I live close by we share many things like the majestic St. Lawrence River. Here are a few near me. We have miles of beach along the eastern shore of Lake Ontario just 5 minutes from house. If you ever watch the Weather Channel, you will often hear them mention the "Snow Belt" in their reports. I live right in the center of the belt. We get to experience some beautiful colors in the fall. I live in wine country which alows me to make my own vino . I live a couple hours from this super guy! I live in maple country. Much better than that stuff from Wisconsin and Vermont. I have two really great neighbors! Here's a couple of a Historical Steel Bridge that's less than a 1/4 mile from my home .. And lastly my favorite thing to post about is this farm that's been in my wifes family for over 200 years ... Tominator
Small world Anthony, my wife went to Anthony Wayne High School. She grew up in the "Fallen Timbers" area where the battle of Fallen Timbers was fought. This is the monument that's about 3 or 4 miles from where my wife grew up, right on the banks of the Maumee river. "Mad" Anthony Wayne was the commanding general at that battle. We have some Indian mound systems in the area (Hopewell burial grounds I believe) I did not take the above pictures. We are also very close to the furthest northern point that the Confederates ever got during the Civil War, but I can't remember the name of general or the campaign. I know Fred (aka Nut) is close to where John Hunt Morgan raided southern Ohio, in fact I think Morgan county's mascot at the high school is named after him, the Raiders. VermontHunter
Actually Chris,, the confederate army did a small raid on St.Albans, Vermont no less than 10 miles from my home, that didn't have the effect they hoped .... The group of confederates made it to Canada.
Michiganbowhunter_SQ2
Here area few pics of our house, taken last year: Front yard Back yard We live just outside of Flint, Mi, the birthplace of General Motors. This pic of downtown Flint was taken last year during a parade/car show celebrating GM's 100yr anniversary. I have a ton of pictures I took of cars going by in the parade. They had just about every car ever made by GM in this parade, from the very first model to todays cars. Oh, Flint is also number 2 or 3 in the country for highest crime rate. elkoholic
Not much significant here except the scenery. The nearest town of any size (more than 1,000 people), Eureka is about ten miles away. Main street looking southeast from town The realities of living here. High mountain lake. Low mountain lake. A view of Lake Koocanusa looking north at the Canadian Rockies. One more view looking out the living room window.
Canuck2
What an interesting thread! Sure some nice places, history, scenery, and activities. OK, the first one is in my back yard. We have a few isolated patches of official desert nearby. This is Cascade Gorge on the Kettle River, as it crashes its way toward the Columbia River in WA state. There used to be a power generating plant built on this site and currently there is a lobby to rebuild it, which I think would be a shame. And finally, not real close to home, but still in B.C. This is on a hike to a world heritage site in the Rockies where there are some incredible fossils.
ruttinbuc
Great pictures, everyone! I have some significant places to our heritage and culture close to me, but few pictures....
wtnhunt
Some great pics posted here for sure. Usually get some pretty fall colors here, but this year was not so great due to the drought. Thought I had some fall color pics and driveway pics loaded somewhere but could not find them. We do get some pretty sunsets here from time to time too. Took these before a tornado came through about 5 miles away from us. With the old river channel back here we see quite a few of these, had some pretty pics loaded to hunt101 from along the river that got lost, still have them on a cd somewhere I think. A few shots out the back window. Not really the best pic to put into perspective, but think this old oak may be a significant, it has been around for quite a few years. With the indian tools and arrowheads we have found kind of wonder about the history. Have heard a few interesting stories.
Mach1
The first is from the big city just west of where my wife and I went to college and where she grew up ... This is from the mighty Mississippi not far from where we went to school... I grew up about 1 1/2 hours west of here and still go every year. Live about 2 hours away now... A sunrise while duck hunting... From where my wife and I lived for about a year... This is the type of food we eat around here... This is my brother... The hunting and fishing is good around here too. Edited January 2, 2009 by Mach1
