stiennen
Long sory short my wife wanted a dog so I steered her twoard a Beagle Mix so that I could use the dog for tracking/shed hunting. Here is my problem she can find the sheds but she is terrified of them. I have an old shed at the house that I have been working with her and she will not pick it up. She is interested but if it moves at all she bolts. Any fixes for a scared shed dog?
RackBlaster
If you can get another shed try rubbing some dog treats all over it and hold it and let him lick it, not chew . After he does that start to play fetch with it, but do not let him chew on it when he gets it, take it from him right away and award him with a treat. Once he gets used to it, use another shed with out any treat on it and let him fetch it. Start using a word or phrase from the beginning to relate to the shed so he knows whats going on. Once he can recognize that word or phrase start hiding the shed around the house and then outside and when he finds it reward him with a treat and lots of praises. Its a lot easier for him to pick up the scent inside and less distractions . In the beginning make it real easy to find for him and then take it from there. I did this with 2 of my Jack Russells and it worked out great. Once they knew we were going looking for sheds they went nuts. Good luck
