does anyone know the official date when you are supposed to have your christmas tree down and lights off your house?

I know some people where i moved from leave their "lights on all year long" as Gretchen Wilson would say....but that probably doesn't fly in northern IL...lol

just wondering when its been to long...

Here in our neck-o-the-woods, if the Christmas lights are not taken down by the 4th of July you'd be considered lazy.

....popgun

When the Ice goes off of them they'll come down here.

At least I'm not out there with a blow torch trying to get them and burning the house down...they'll be down before the 4th though:D

This is my BIGGEST pet peeve! In my opinion Christmas decorations shouldn't come out until after Thanksgiving and be down within a few days of Christmas. I've been known to take mine down the day of Christmas.

Anyway, it's in our neighborhood association clause that decorations are to be down by January 2nd. Problem is most of the neighbors don't follow this and since we are no longer a "paying" association it isn't inforced much.

This is the first year in several that I had a tree up. I guess I could be considered a born-again Scrooge.?.?:D I have seen the light.?.? (or X-mas lights):p

Anyways, I was off on New Years Eve day...everyone else I know had to work...so I took mine down then.

For what it's worth though, when my girlfriend asked me what I had done that day and I told her I took the tree down, she wasn't too happy. Told me it was too early to take it down. (I guess that's why she has her place and I have my own):D:D

A friend of mine had her tree down, and out to the curb for pick-up at 5pm on Christmas Day! A bit premature if you ask me....for as far as outdoor Christmas lights, I have to agree with Gary. The first day that the snow and ice is melted off of them, they are down. If is happens to be Dec 26th, so be it... but they are never up past January 1st.

Well, thanks for the replies....looks like i have three options...

1.) Leave em up and say i moved here from Arkansas and they'll be down by the 4th of July...

2.) Explain to everyone that i will not be on the roof with a blow torch in 30 mph winds and below freezing temps attempting to remove the lights...

OR

3.) suck it up and take em down...

I really like option 1, however, i think i will have to go with option 3...

Hey all, what is a neighborhood association. I know what a clause is, his family is from way up north. I'm guessing a neighborhood association is a fancy way for saying people living beside me sticking there nose onto my piece of dirt. I recon there is a rule against shooting trap in the back yard after church on sunday too.

This is why I'm in dept for ground, just don't want neighbors. Not saying they would be bad ones, I'm pretty sure I would be the problem.

Oh by the way Christmas lights should come down when you get around to it. Just don't plug them in.icon10.gif
