Re: homemade ice fishing shanty??

Have you ever seen the collapsable ones made with 3 sheets of plywood, 3-2x4's, an 8-foot 2x2, a tarp and some hinges. It's light, folds flat and fits in the back of the truck and all your gear can go on top. Pops up in seconds and with a small propane heater you can be in your sweatshirt at -30. I've had a couple of them over the years.

It can be made for less than $100 depending on the plywood you use.

If you're interested I can draw out a rough sketch, scan it and send it to you.

2 sheets of plywood4-6ft high.Cut half circle for the top both sheets.Screw 2x2 or old hockey sticks on both sides x 2 & one @ top in the middle.Stretch your black tarp over & overlap edges & staple.Srew excess plywood over top of the stapled overlap for strength.Unsrew inside 2x2 supports.collaps like acordian.can make 2x4 runners for the bottom & insstall on ssheet without door. Also cut door in one side & install hinges & clasp.Very cheap & easy to make.Pm me if your interested & I will try to find a pic of mine.

[/ QUOTE ] Only in Canada lol. grin.gif Sounds like a good plan for a shanty though. We don't use them here since the lakes we fish are so hard to access even those collapsable portable ones take up too much space in teh sleigh. But one question...if you use all your old hockey sticks to make a shanty with how will you make ice rods and tip-ups? blush.gifgrin.gif
