RangerClay
Hi guys, I building a hawken kit for a friend. This is the second kit I have done. The first time I was very unhappy with the quality of the bluing I chose. Do you have a favorite bluing that you like to use? Also any tips would be great. Thanks Ranger
magnatecsteve
Re: Bluing a ML kit question I know you asked a question about bluing, but have you ever thought of browning one? It gives the gun a totally different look. I have re-done some of my old production guns and it really adds alot of character to them. Only bluing I ever used was Birchwood Casey. AJ
Re: Bluing a ML kit question Which blue did you use? I guess that you used a cold blue. I have had decent results with Oxpho Blue from Brownells. It will not look like a hot blued gun, but is still not too bad.

magnatecsteve
Re: Bluing a ML kit question One thing to keep in mind is to make SURE the barrel and any other parts you are blueing are COMPLETELY CLEAN. You don't want ANY oil on it, whether it be oil from when it was packaged or even oils from your hands. Use a strong de-greaser, or toilet bowl cleaner works well too. Rinse thoroughly in HOT HOT water and dry, use rubber gloves when handling after cleaned.
AJ
Re: Bluing a ML kit question Thats the nice thing about the Oxpho Blue. That much prep is not needed. In fact, I wipe my hunting guns down once a year with Oxpho Blue after hunting with them. It hides the scratches very nicely. It goes on through the oil. WABS
Re: Bluing a ML kit question I browned my last barrel and I'll never blue a ML again. It really came out looking great!!
