fly
I'm sure you guys are getting tired of hearing from me, but I have one more question. After the shot how can I run a patch down the barrel (and get it back out) using my ram rod? Do I have to buy an adaptor that screws into my ran rod that allows a patch to be inserted into it? I have adaptors for my shotgun and rifles, but they don't fit my ram rod. Before I buy one I was wondering if there was a trick I was missing? A picture of the ram rod I have is below:
Michiganbowhunter_SQ2
I put one of these on my ramrod when at the range, and I carry it in one of the tubes for the flex loader when in the field. Not only does it hold patches when you run them down the barrel, but the tip is shpaed so you can use it on bullets like the shockwaves/SSTs and not mess up the tip. Here is a link to the little kit I have, which includes the cleaning jag above, but you can buy them seperate if you don't need everything. http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_35373_425010004_425000000_425010000_425-10-4 Edited January 4, 2009 by Michiganbowhunter_SQ2
redryder
You need a cleaning jag. It screws into the end of your ram rod. I am surprized there wasn't one in your cleaning kit.

In addition the ram rod tip is the same. I placed a patch around the tip of the glod tip and ram rod and ran it in and the patch came out attached to the tip every time:). I suppose the rounded tip is so snug in the barrel and the little etchings grip the patch allowing for removal. Has anyone had an instance where the patch did not come out with the rod? I never would have thought to do that. I sort of figured there might be a trick.
PA_Spike_King
I have had the patch come off a time or two but I got all of them out with the tool with the wires sticking out of it. Works great.
PA_RIDGE_RUNNER
I have a patch jag with ridges around it and the tip is concave and can be used for cleaning and bullet seating. Sooner or later you will let a patch in the barrel. That is what the wire jag is for. Just put it down the barrel and give a twist and pull it out. Many years ago I lost the whole tip off my wooden ramrod down the barrel. It was not pinned and it was a flintlock so no chance of taking the breech plug out. But that is another story.
