Fiesta Bowl: Ohio St. vs. Texas

Here we go again with Jimmy Tressel....all about field goals.

You got 4th and 2 in Texas territory, you have a phenom who can shake tackles playing QB for you, and you opt for a rushed 51 yard field goal...giving McCoy great starting field position.

That play right there is enough to swing the momentum in Texas' favor. They score a TD on this drive...that could mean the game.

Give me the clipboard, Jimmy...you're a liability.:o

10 minutes prior, he hit a 50 yarder that would have been good from 60. Take a shot at the points while you can. The defence is doing their thing, let's take a shot at 3 points when the opportunity presents itself.

So save your analysis for the post-game, sport, cause you sure don't know what is going on upstairs in the Tressel brain-trust.:D

6-3 Bucks at halftime. Beanie is looking good, to say the least.

the score doesn't really show it, but ohio is giving it to Texas in the first half. Sure hope the second half straightens out.:o

you're right. OSU dominated that half really but both schools have dodged some bullets. That false start the Bucks had when they were in the red zone was huge, and that INT McCoy just threw was a big, big play.

I thought Texas was going to score a TD on that drive right before the end of the first half, and that would have been huge with them getting the ball back to start the second half.

This is a good game though. No one saw a touchdown less first half coming, that's for sure. But McCoy is the real deal, the Buckeyes need to start scoring TDs...field goals aren't going to win this game for them. McCoy will get a few in the end zone.

you guys probably don't know this, but Tom is Tressel's cousin.:D

Tommy, ma man, you go for that on 4th and 2 wih Pryor and Beanie.

I'd also like to see Boeckman hand off to Beanie on a draw play. If Boeckman is going to throw every time he comes in, it's not going to fool anyone. There's a huge gapping hole up the middle when Boeckman is taking the snaps.

Let's face the facts here, Tom. The Buckeyes won't win any big games with Tressel at the helm.

How many times do you need to see Mack Brown go for it on 4th down and control this game to realize that? He's not kicking any field goals with a two kicker system...he's lining up, and getting the yards he needs.

And, the most tell tale sign...once again they Bucks did not make ANY halftime adjustments. That's the mark of a good coach. Brown and the Longhorns did, and yet again, the Buckeyes and this shell of a coaching staff didn't do anything to adjust.

Seeing Tress out-coached in these situations is getting old my friend.

He might have been able to win D-III titles at Youngstown State, but to me, it's obvious the '02 championship is the anomaly...

Say whatever you want about Tress, he wasn't one of our D-back's out there that failed to press Texas WR's off the line. McCoy is too good of a QB to just give him those 5-10 yard dump passes and slant passes that they had all night long. Our DB's had no answer for them. Tress' fault? Nope. Pryor's fault? Nope. LB's fault? Nope. P-poor tackling and a lack of pressure on Texas WR's.

Did Beanie Wells know they were playing 2 halves? What was up with that?

He plays like he did in the first half (or, heck, if he even plays at all in the second half) OSU wins.

Not to take anything away from McCoy though, they had zero run game and he still got it done. He gets rid of the ball quicker than any college QB I can remember.

Pryor has some room to improve, but for a true freshman, the kid is impressive. Hats off to Texas.

Lets hope Beanie comes back for his senior year...and actually has the heart to play football that counts.:(

He's calling the plays Tom, and he's the one responsible for making halftime adjustments...which he never makes.

Seriously, he goes for that on 4th and 2...things could have been different. If they get it, they eat clock and at the very least have an attempt at a more realistic FG.

I'm disgusted at Beanie right now..........................

Heck of a game. That last drive was pretty impressive. As for Pryor, he didn't impress me at all this game. Seemed like few times there in the second half, Boeckman would come in and bail him out, then Ole sweater vest went back to Pryor. But, he is only a freshman, he'll learn.

I'm not sure what was up with Beanie. He did limp off the field at one point though, but in a game like that you gotta suck it up for your team.

Congrats to Texas. Great game.

Tressel messed up by reviewing the first down spot. Took the kids heads right out of it. Without that delay OSU had a chance.

But if that review came back and Texas didn't get the 1st down, that was the ball game. Can't fault Tress for that at all. It was too close and meant too much to not review it.

I don't see it that way, Tom. The mental game needs to be played, too. Just waiting on the call was a letdown. Had there been no review they probably would have sucked it up and held them off.

I agree with Tom. That's a play you HAVE to review. They call it a bad spot and move it back...game over. If any thing else, it actually gave the defense a rest. Texas and their no huddle killed Ohio State all night and was wearing them down on that drive. Of course it didn't help, but you still need to make the attempt. It was to close to say "go ahead and just take the first down."
