Hunting in the heat

Well to answer your question the hottest was the mid 90's here during bow season in the past. I don't do that anymore. I've also turkey hunted in south Texas all day long with the temp getting up to 98 and heat index well over 100. Just keep a lot of water handy on a spring day like that.

One day last week it was about 78 in the afternoon when I got on a stand. I was the only one that didn't see a deer out of 3 of us hunting in that heat wave. I did hear an awesome pig fight though. Tusk pooping, squealing, grunting, limbs snapping...the whole works. It went on for a few minutes but they were in a briar thicket so I never saw any of them or I would have dusted one. ;)

A couple times in the mid 90s last bow season. Don't think it was that bad this year. Over the past bow seasons, got in the habit of walking in with shorts and t on and putting my clothes on once at my stand. Brought that tactic back out the other day.... probably the same evening rhino was talking about.

I went yesterday and saw nothing. The rut is ON........so I'm wondering if they are moving more at night right now. Starting to wear my nerves a little thin........sitting there sweating, swatting skeeters, wasting time.

It may have reached 90 a time or two over the past 20 years I've been bowhunting in October. Not uncommon for mid-80's during the day, but usually drops into the 70's by evening. I guess I'm still to passionate or crazy because generally I hunt when I get the chance regardless of the weather.

You're hunting in Florida without a thermocell? Heck I broke mine out here during the last 2 heat waves we had. I don't recall ever having used it this late in the season before though.

My best friend killed a 10 point this past Friday afternoon and the temperature was around 70 at dark. I helped him dress it wearing shorts and a T shirt.

You just never know when one might pass by. One thing's for sure though...you must be present to win. ;):D

My dad killed a nice buck with his bow the day after Christmas this year when it was a whopping 72 degrees. Our rut was pretty much night time activity only at that point, but he was able to entice that old buck to come in with a couple soft grunts.

I'd sure be hunting. You can't get one if you aren't there. Your patience will eventually be rewarded!

I havw hunted in the upper 90's a couple of times but dont do it anymore.I see no need to work up a lathery sweat while going to your stand when You try so hard to remain scent free. Our season starts the first of september in KY,I may go out a couple of times if it is overcast or cool but I usually wait until the middle of october to hit it hard when it starts cooling down.

I have hunted elk on Labor Day weekend when the temperature climbed above 100 degrees. The absolute worst was an antelope hunt sitting in a pop-up blind with an outside temperature of 105 and inside the blind it must have been at least 20 degrees hotter. I sure wanted to jump in that water hole I was watching. I much prefer -20 to anything over 50 degrees. Hunt when you can, even if the conditions are not the best, for it surely beats a day at work.
