What do you do While on Stand

i know this has been in here before but i just had to ask again. What got me wanting to ask is the fact that i was watching Realtree Road Trips last week and i saw Michael playing a little hand held Solitare game. Even though thats exactly what i do, i also play the Battleship game too, but i was laughing because its not something that you normally see on a hunting show. I guess this just shows that Michael is just like all of us.

So what do you do to pass the time?

Re: What do you do While on Stand

Well first I usually sit there and kinda visualize deer showing up at different spots and try to decide where I can and cant get a shot off at.Dont matter how many times I hunt the same stand, i still do this for some reason, kinda daydreaming i guesse. Then I just sit patiently and watch.

Ive tried bringing books and stuff, i cant seem to pay attention when Im in a stand, i look up constantly, and either forget what i just read or get into the book and forget to look up and have deer sneak in on me, apparently i cant do 2 things at once LOL blush.gif

Re: What do you do While on Stand

I spend a lot of alone time with my maker. I've probibly done more prayer and reflection on a deer stand than anywhere else. There's not too many times that you have 12-14 hrs. in complete seclusion. I do alot of shot selection when I'm in heavy brush so I can visualize where good spots are to shoot. And I take food that doesn't make a lot of noise to snack on.

Re: What do you do While on Stand

I have considered reading a book, magazine, or the Word but have always been concerned about the page turning noise. I've brought my Palm Pilot out before to play a few games but couldn't concentrate very well...worried I would miss something. Now, I just sit, watch, pray, and occasionally two-way message my hunting buddy and/or my wife with my mobile phone. Sometimes I'll close my eyes for a few minutes but, again, I don't want to miss that monster bucks that is just beggin' for me to shoot him. grin.gif

Re: What do you do While on Stand

There have been times when I have taken along reading material, but like many have already said, concentrating on reading and also concentrating on being aware of approaching deer seems to be a bit at odds with each other. Also, it occurred to me one day that flipping the white pages of magazines or books was kind of like waving a white flag. Somehow it didn't seem right to be sitting there all dressed in my expensive camo while flashing white paper around crazy.gif

So now, I just sit back and enjoy all that nature has to offer. There always seems to be something of interest going on.

I just sit and enjoy nature most of the time, get lots of thinking done. I do have a gameboy advance with tiger woods golf, keep the volume off and get a few holes in from time to time. last year i had a few games on my cell phone. cool.gif

Re: What do you do While on Stand

That really all depends on what time of year it is. If its the early and very late parts of the season I may read a book or a hunting magazine because I'm basically hunting food sources and I expect to see deer right at sunset. If its late October here or the first couple of weeks of November I'm on my Ps & Qs. You never know when you'll see something.
