stevebeilgard
you cannot turn on the television today and not see where we have a 1.3 TRILLION dollar defecit this year, and obama is wanting an extra 1.5 trillion. but what is a trillion. we all know what a thousand dollars is. if you had one thousand, one thousand dollars, you'd have one billion. if you had a thousand billion, you'd have one trillion. but let's talk real dollars. if you spent 1 dollar every second, you would spend $60.00 per minute, $3,600.00 per hour, and $8640.00 per day. but for you to spend all of your one trillion dollars this way, it would take you 31,000 YEARS. now, get back to work. our govenment needs you. goodnottygy
trillion That IS a lot of dough. Lets not forget, we were in the black 8 years ago. I was not a Clinton fan, but we were at least in the black. I dont' know what the answer is, but cutting government waste seems to be the logical way. I work for the Dept. of Corrections and I see waste at a state level...cannot imagine the waste at a federal level.
pendog
Just plain nuts!!!! Ny Governor said yesterday that we are basicly "screwed"..... so here are more taxes for you to handle. I heard they hope the chosen one will give the state 5 billion Bail out dollars, alot of that to offset the losses by the public transportation system in Ny city. Everyone has gone nuts!!!! KirkV
OOOOOOOOOH I know the answer........ Lets increase taxes!
pendog
What gets me is the double standard stuff, our politicians railed against the automakers for waste...who rails against the politicians for the same things? Pelosi has her own airforce jet she flies around in, i wish the automakers would have pointed that out. We will foot the bill for it though and more taxes to keep everything afloat. Waste should not be tolerated period! Ranting i guess, it's thursday!!
GWSmith
...you would spend $60.00 per minute, $3,600.00 per hour, and $8640.00 per day. but for you to spend all of your one trillion dollars this way, it would take you 31,000 YEARS. $60.00 per minute X 60(1hr) = $3,600.00 $3,600 x 24(1day) = $86,400.00 $86,400 x 365(1year) = $31,536,000.00 $1,000,000,000,000 = 1 Trillion dollars $1,000,000,000,000 divided by $31,536,000(1 year) = 317,097.92 years to spend it all... wtnhunt
Heard on the news last night that Obama warned that we have a huge hole to come out of, but he expects to spend more in order to stimulate things to get out of the hole, also heard he created a new job(chief performance officer) to work with the economic issues. Think a good start to getting back on track would be to start by looking at trimming the fat in DC.

I was not a Clinton fan, but we were at least in the black...Just an FYI - we had a budget surplus (meaning more tax money coming in than was being spent) for about 3 years, but the nation still had a large debt. In fact, when Clinton took office in 1993 he inherited a $4 trillion debt. When he left in 2001 Bush inherited a $5.5 trillion debt. Now if your point is that Bush spent way too much while in office, I totally agree. Just want everyone to be clear on the fact that this country has had debt (owed money) since the turn of the 20th century.
