Casey
I have a Llewellin Setter. She is 9 months old. She is very birdy and can handle a bobwhite quail like its a walk in the park. When she is out of the dog box, its like "hold on to your butt, Lily is out of the box". She runs hard and points like a champ. Has many different style of points. She can either stand with confident and point and other times she will lower her body like a cat and point that way as well. I like that point stance better. What do you have??? Tominator
My first dog was a Brittany, then I got an English Setter. Both good dogs. I hunted over GSHP's growing up. If I ever got another dog it would be another Brit I think. But I don't ever see another dog in my family. Too much work for the amount of time and availability of birds in my area. Deer are king nowdays around here.
Strut10
Had Britts and a GSP. Have seen every dog imaginable work as I used to marshal AKC Hunter Tests. They all have their strong points (pun unintended) and I could work with any of them. That being said, there's no question that, were I to buy another dog, it'd definitely be a Britt. Missed160
I have a Springer Spaniel. He is a pheasant machine, but will be 9 yrs old in about 2 weeks. Still hunts very hard, but is pretty sore & worn out for a couple days after a hard hunt. Not sure if I will get another hunting dog, like Tominator said, it's a lot of work to keep a hunting dog good, for a few days of hunting.. Dakota
Well, I have a black lab who doesn't like to put the birds she finds in her mouth (we got her before we fully knew how to train a hunting dog) and then I have a little mini daschund who loves to hunt garter snakes in the backyard and tells us that we need to shoot the "moo-cows" instead of those nasty pheasants. :D:D Dakota
RangerClay
I've owned two viszlas and they were the greatest bird dogs I have ever seen. I have a golden retriever now and she is ok. She is a better squirrel dog than a bird dog.
