mailmanmark
Which do you prefer to load for deer, black bear, & coyote ?
Strut10
When you add black bear to the equation, I'd pick the .308 hands down.
doubleA
Either one will do, especially when handloading with the vast array of bullets we have to chose from today. Pick a bullet/construction that is intended for the game you intend to use it on and you should be fine, as always shot placement is the key. Shaun_300
Out of those two choices, it'd be the .308 for sure.
OUTSIDER
I had a 7mm-08, shot many deer with it, 120 gr HP, was my favorite deer round, would not hesitate to shoot a bear with it. Friend of mine took a 400lb + bear with his, all about shot placement.
m gardner
I wouldn't hesitate to shoot a bear with the 7mm-08. Or an elk either. But if you want unlimited choices for reloading or factory ammo go with the 308 win. Mark
LETMGROW
Of the two choices you have given, I would go with the .308 also. There are many more bullet weights available and I personally would prefer something heavier than what is offered for the 7mm-08 for bear. David_218
Either one will do the job with the proper bullet.
Straight Shooter
I had a .308 for years and switched to the 7mm-.08 a few years back. I love thi srifle and it has yet to let me down. I just tried out the 120 grain Spitzer this fall and WOW did they do great. I've also used the 140 Nosler Partition with great results. I will be trying out 140 grain Accu Bond this fall. By the way, I took a deer at 154, 208, and 306 yards this past fall with the 120 grain Spitzer.
hyperflow
7mm-08 is a awesome gun, I bought my Gf a ruger m77 compact and she killed 2 bears with it last fall. One dropped right there (approx 120 yard shot) and the other went maybe 20yards?. Id pick a 7mm-08 over a 308 anyday. I wouldn;t even have any fear shooting moose with a 7mm-08. Oh both bears we;re shot with nosler partions

Mark Have to agree here...either will cleanly kill any animal (within reason...would not trust either on a really large animal that wants to eat you) you aim at... The .308 is generally one of the most accurate rounds you can get and there is a nearly endless variety of bullets you can load into it...
