Guest Taylor(Hunter1993)
I have a hog problem, They seem like they are scaring the deer away, we were used to getting 300 pics of deer on our cam, then the hogs came, now we get nothing but hog, except for this last time, we got like ten deer pics. Ive heard the hog thing will come and go, is that true? Will the deer start interreacting with the Hogs?

Dawg
Hogs can be a menice. The best thing I have found to do is simply kill them if you want em gone. The deer will come back around, I've never heard of hogs running deer off completely. Matter of fact this coming up Saturday I will be hunting hogs with my cousin at his lease and the spot we will be hunting has produced and still produces great deer each year and they have hogs there just about year round. Hope this helped and welcome to the forums!
texastrophies
If the hogs are coming into a feeder and the deer aren't, the hogs are just keeping the deer away from the feeder, not scaring them completely away, the deer are still there, you just need to get rid of the hogs. The best way to get rid of the hogs is to hunt them. Take a couple of shots at them and kill a couple, they will find a new locale. Otherwise, you will just have to wait them out, they do migrate, but even if they do leave or you scare them away, they will be back, more than likely with more in tow than you have now. stevebeilgard
check out your state game regs. often states want you to kill them all. pigs are getting to be a real problem. get them gone if it's legal.

redkneck
Yep, when hogs come to a feeder, your deer leave. Who knows exactly why, my guess is they are so noisy deer just wont associate, or just the smell of them. Trap 'em, shoot 'em, whatever, but they are very intelligent animals and can take a hint. They move around a lot, but you can push them away for a while (depending on how many you have)

buckee
All I know is that hogs are a very Invasive species, and will multiply like rabbits. If they are just showing up now, the problem is going to get much worse. EAT PORK !!
rookieee
set some traps or just kill them:cool:
hungry hunter
Hawgs are pesky and will do a lot of damage to property. When i first got my huntin lease which bordered a cypress swamp the place was eat up with hawgs. Yes they will run the deer off a food plot or feeder. What i found out is I set my feed times to go off after daylight and before dark. It seemed to work. The deer would come in during daylight hours and clean up. Walking to the stands in the dark I would always walk up on Hawgs. Once you start hunting them, they go nocturnal. GOOD LUCK!!!
Curdog
Get some traps. Bait them with corn soaked in diesel fuel. (Deer and Coons wont touch the corn) Hunted hogs will go nocturnal. Hunt them with dogs. Real men catch them alive:D
redkneck
I'll second the diesel fuel, hogs love it. But last year, i had some rabbits eat it too!! No wonder they tasted so bad after that last rabbit hunt.
Rhino
Sorry to say this but once you've got them...you've got them. According to the gurus, in order to just keep the population in check 75% of the population needs to be removed each year. The only way you have any chance to do that is by trapping them. They are basically nocturnal to begin with so you've got very little chance of doing much damage to the population by just hunting them. Good luck. Hunt them with dogs. Real men catch them alive:D Hey, I am all for eradicating the hogs, but isn't diesel fuel poisoning them? If they run off and die, won't other critters die also from eating that tainted meat? Take the time to hunt them, it will not only be rewarding, but there will be pork chops and bacon galore. If it becomes too much meat, can't you donate it? I don't want to say it is a fun problem to have, but turn this into a mission. Get your friends, a semi auto centerfire, a spotlight, and start blasting away.
hammerforged
Where are you located? Maybe we need to get a party up and come help you get rid of the pesky varmints. Road trip anyone?
redkneck
The diesel fuel is only a deterent to deer, coons, etc. It does not harm the hog or taint the meat. Pour a cup or two onto a 5 gallon bucket of corn and they love it. You can pour old motor oil into a hog pen and they love to roll in it and eat it, dont ask me why. I would never advocate dumping fuel or oil in the woods, but a small amount of fuel on your favorite feed will not harm anything, and let you tailor your trap area to hogs only. You can also sour it with water, put some mayo on it, or soak it in some coolaid, but a spash of diesel is all it takes.
