Guest shjohn43
I'm thinking about purchasing the model 1500 Howa 243 thumbhole stock rifle. Any feedback on quality and dependability would be appreciated. Thanks!!! Shjohn43
Grady269
great rifle, well made, and probably one of the strongest actions on the market.
Guest shjohn43
Thanks Grady!! I will need to educate myself on what's the best shell to use for various types of hunting. I mostly hunt in North La. which only involves 50 to maybe 150 yard shots. I read an article this morning put out by AJ called COTW-.243 Winchester which explained various grain bullets and their uses. GREAT article and very informative. Have a GREAT day and thanks again for your feedback. Shjohn43
Jeramie
Howa makes a very decent rifle for the money. My next big purchase will be the Axium. Shell wise, use a 100grn btsp (or over the counter Corelokt) and youre deadly on deer. Varmint id use the same thing unless youre wanting to save a pelt, then switch to a V-Max. If you reload then you can really get the best out of that rifle.

Gus
I have the same model in a 22-250, grey thumbhole stock with a stainless barrel, that I have had for a couple of years now and really like it, no problems at all. Since the first gun has been so good to me, I went and picked up another one Monday in a .204, brown thumbhole stock with a blued bull barrel, going to test it out this weekend on a little predator calling trip I plan on making Saturday night. Adjam5
Welcome to the forums:) I have Weatherby Vanguard in 7mmRem Mag and it is made by Howa. A Tackdriver. I paid I think $329 about 7 years ago at WalMart. When our downstate NY Walmart's sold guns. I think it is a great value for the money and a very accurate rifle too. I just hated creating a demand for a rifle from a country that restricts their citizens from from owning such weapons. Thats just me. jumper_89
I have a Weatherby Vanguard (same as Howa). It is chambered in 22-250. I chose this gun because of the price and I had just heard good things about it. I had major problems with the gun holding good groups at first. I do all of my own reloading and I could not get the gun under an 1" 100 yards. To me, for a 22-250 that is horrible. I ended up working up 14 different loads and found one that worked(1/2 " 100 yds). From my experience these guns are very finnacky with different loads but are very well built with excellent bluing. Other than the problems at first, I love this gun. As for the .243 I would shoot sierra game king 100 grs. That is what I shoot out of my .243 they are extremelly accurate and have a thin enough jacket for whitetail.
