Turkeygirl
So I am wondering, for those who tie flies....the hooks you use for fly tying (wet, dry, etc...), do they have to be specific for fly tying or could you, depending on hook size and what not, use some of the regular bait hooks (barbless) that are sold??? Something I just thought of because I know Mustad has "wet and dry" hooks for fly tying, but they also sell the "normal" hooks, so I was wondering if there was a difference with some? Randy
The difference is in the style and shape. Longer and shorted shafts for the "bug" you are trying to duplicate. Get the Cabelas brand hooks, they are a good hook. I use Dry fly hooks for making ice fishing jigs.
muggs
You can use regular hooks for nympths as long as they're the right size for what you're trying to tie. But if you're tying draft flies, the dry fly hooks are a lot lighter and will work much better. At the end of the day, it's easier to just go with the recommended hook for the pattern you're using.
