Great Christmas, first buck (no pics)

Haven't had time to post here because of school and what not.

The first weekend of deer season here in Minnesota (Nov. 7) I was in my stand at about 6:00 AM, well before sunrise. I waited until about 8:30 when I saw a group of 3 does behind me not on our land. I watched them for some time and as I turned around there was a deer about 125 yards away. I didn't get a good look at it but I did see that it had horns. It was about to walk into some thick willows where I would have no shot, so I pulled up my 30-30 iron sights and pulled the trigger. It looked like it hit but I wasn't sure. I waited a good hour and half before searching for it. As we start tracking it we realize it was going to be much much harder than anticipated (Was raining steady all day). We follow the blood trail and kick it up out of the willows, there was not much blood at all and we lost the trail after only 10 yards and never end up finding it.

I go to my big brothers for Christmas and my dad tells me he has a present I am going to love (I thought it was going to be something for my bow). I open the box and in it was the rack mounted with a European mount. I looked at him and was like what is this?? He told me he found the buck about a week later while examining his stands.

Turns out it was an old 9 pointer, almost 10 scoring 130. I am so prod of the deer I shot, it is hanging above my bed right now, and I get such a good feeling every time I look at it. This is the first buck I've shot and it is soooo amazing!

I need to post pics of mine, too. I had a buck in 2007 just like that. I shot him the first night out but we couldn't find him. He was a big bodied 8 pt. whitetail that was waay past his prime. I ended up shooting a muley doe later on. Then my buddy is out checking for calves in April and ends up finding him after the creek had swept him down stream a bit. I have his skull hanging in my garage as we speak and will post pics later.

Dakota :)

That's great. Reminds me of my first one. 30-30, iron sights, i was ten years old, alone, shaking like a leaf, because there was this massive 3-pt! Must have been a 6 inch inside spread! I fired off three rounds and the deer just looked around. I finally put one way far back in the gut. Daddy didnt find it till the next day and it was way too hot to keep. He did put it on a plaque for me, and today my kids just laugh at it. But back then we didnt see many deer, and when you saw bone you got excited. Congratulations on a great first kill. That will always be a cherished memory for you.
