Shaun_300
Tonight Dave, his daughter Mackenzie and I headed out to the shack for a couple hours. They were biting pretty good but weren't holding on for very long. This one was hungry enough and Dave caught him. It had some interesting markings on it too! First walleye out of the Ottawa River this year...

whttlbucksteve
Is it a sauger?
Shaun_300
Is it a sauger? You know I was wondering the same thing, I'm thinking it might be a walleye/sauger crossbreed... Those darker patches on it were a bluish colour like a sauger, but mainly it was gold like a walleye.

It's got the markings of a sauger but it still has the white tip on the tail. You'll never know once that baby hits the skillet!

muggs
Yeah, I'd say that's a saugeye too. I'm heading out this Saturday, walleye bite has been good at this lake so hopefully we do okay.
Shaun_300
Same here. Whats your guys min. size limit on walleye? It all depends on the area, on the Ottawa River there's no size limit from June 15th til March 31st, but from the opening day in the spring (friday before the 3rd saturday in may) til June 15th they must be less than 40cm (15.8") to keep. In Golden Lake they must be greater than 50cm (19.7") in any season.

Shaun_300
I've never fished there, I'd like to get up that way fishing sometime. It's on the other end of the province from me though, over 1000 miles from here. I bet the pike fishing is REAL good up there, most spots in NW Ontario are...
