My husband started hunting this past spring, but Ive been around hunters my entire life. Ive never been (no one would ever take me growing up) but my husband and uncle are taking me out turkey huntin in april.

Im excited and cant wait but we are having a little disagreement.

Since I have no gear myself yet, he says we should save the money and I can just wear some of his clothes.

I told him no because id be uncomfortable, he still swears it will be fine.

Looks like I will have to buy my own when he isnt around.

since I have never been hunting a day in my life, does anyone have any pointers for me? Especially for turkey season and where to get the best deal for clothes??

try phantompredator.com they have good deals on scent lok clothing. They are factory rejects but I've bought several items from there and I cant tell that anything is wrong with them without the little stickers that they put on the clothing to show you why they were rejected. Good luck and welcome to the forums. Im not a turkey hunter so I cant help ya there.

Welcome aboard! Hope you stick around! I'd suggest checking:

Cabelas.com

Wingsupply.com

sportsmansguide.com

As far as tips...do a search on here, you'll find alot of great info, and don't be afreaid to ask questions.

Turkeys are tricky critters, don't expect to get something the first time out, and they'll frustrate the heck out of you, but enjoy the whole hunt and learn from each time you go out. Put some snacks in your pockets, and if it's cold, wear layers...you can always take them off.

I took my wife to Bass Pro in St. Charles and found some turkey hunting clothes that fit her. No way would mine even come close. When it comes to boots (I'd suggest snake boots if hunting in IL/MO just for peace of mind) you really need to try them on. Get a moisture wicking away sock and a thicker one. Cabela's (Mills mall) has a nice selection as well. Prior to going look on-line (Cabela's / Bass Pro) and you''ll get a better idea of what you're looking for and save some time at the store.

Glad to hear your husband is taking you hunting. It's important for you to be comfortable while hunting or the experience will not be as enjoyable. A good comfortable pair of boots is essential for turkey hunting since you may be covering a lot of territory and hill climbing. Make sure you do a couple short hikes prior to season just to break in your boots a little.

Good luck and welcome to the forums!

Welcome to the forums and good luck with the spring turkeys.

Cabelas has some womens lines, where I have bought I think just about everything for my wife.

The cabelas pinnacle snake boots are good boots, that is what I wear. Might also look at the Irish Setters that cabelas carries in womens snake boots.

whats the difference between regular hunting boots and snake bite resistant?? (besides the obvious)

Snake boots go just below the knee so they can get a little getting used to. Went camping last summer at Rend Lake. The northern part has some good looking turkey country. Pretty flat for the most part, but you could run into some mud if there are heavy rains this spring.

Welcome to RT! Glad to hear you are getting to go hunting! We need more female hunters out there to show the guys how it's done. ;):D

Cabelas, Bass Pro, and Gander Mountain all carry hunting clothes for women. You COULD wear your husbands clothes but guys clothes fit differently on us ladies, for example.. no room for hips, thighs, chest..etc. LOL. :p

My main word of advice is to get familiar with whatever shotgun you plan on taking hunting. If you haven't shot many guns, start out with something small and work your way up to bigger guns. The last thing you want is to be scared of the gun you are shooting. You should feel confident with it. :D

Be sure to keep us updated! I'm looking forward to hearing your stories already! :)
