mrswtnhunt
Kind of quiet in here? You guys/gals ought to be stoked!!! Haven't been on here much lately. Working alot of overtime at the nursing home. Good for the checkbook but not for the body. Can't believe it is only 5 months, and a few days, for the Alaskan hunt. Haven't heard much from Kathleen lately. She sent me a package a few weeks ago with some moose hunting video's, a box of birch bark(yummy), some coffee, candy, a stuffed animal for each of the girls, lots of newspapers from Alaska, and a few other things. Thanks so much Kathleen. This room will get busier as the time approaches.
ruttinbuc
Yes, Catrina, Kathleen has a heart of gold. Befoe you know it the hunt will be here . Pretty exciting for you and Christina, for sure.
JJL
87 days untill we head up to the " Land of the Midnight Goat Ribs ".............. I hope that we have alot of time to do some scouting and "preparation" for the August hunt as well. It shouldn't take too much effort to find black bear, however it would be nice to spot a bunch of moose. I'll make sure to take alot of pics just to tease the rest of you.........that ought to get the fire started. I haven't spoken to Kathleen in a few weeks, I'll probably try and give her a call here soon. Maybe at 2:30 a.m.......................:D:D

JJL
I thought you might enjoy that Mr. Beilgard........ The 2:30 a.m. phone calls are another story....... It seems as though Kathleen figures that if she's awake, everyone else must be awake as well. Alaska time is 2 hours different from Colorado time and Mrs. JJL gets up at 5 a.m. She was not at all amused. Having met Kathleen she quickly realized that Time Zones and Telephone Etiquite were probably not covered in her "special school" and as long as the "short bus" came to the house at 7:30 she never needed a watch. Just Kidding Kathleen.....:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D (see all of the happy faces) You can call whenever you want.............If I get up to answer is another question. mrswtnhunt
Spoke with Kathleen for over an hour last night. She and Terry have made lots of preparations. She told me that she has already arranged the rental of the cabins on Crescent lake. She is so pumped and so am I. The last month has just flown by. Only 5 months to go now. JJL
btw, thanks to what Jim posted, Catrina has fallen for this notion that while one legal moose is likely, more than that is pretty unlikely. William, I am a firm believer in the sustainance of a positive mental attitude, based upon the assumption of a negative result. besides that..............I'm a realist. There might be 10 Moose that fall on this trip. From what I read and been told, 1 is probably a better estimate. This isn't a whitetail doe, a pronghorn, or a cottontail hunt. It's a Moose hunt and the odds of success are greatly lower. I was just trying to reflect that. Sorry if I may have burst a bubble or two. The facts are still the facts. Sincerely, JJL
wtnhunt
Afraid we are kind of hijacking this thread, maybe I should move my reply to the thread in the big game room. besides that..............I'm a realist. Nothing wrong with being a realist Jim, kind of a bit of a realist myself. She is happy just to be going, a kill(be it bear or moose) would be icing on the cake. I think Catrina had come to the idea though that she would have to settle for a bear as there would likely not be any chance for a moose from what you posted. That might very well be the case, however I still plan to buy her a moose/bear tag just in case, because it would kind of stink for her to have a chance on a legal bull moose and have a bear only tag. Given the knowledge of Kathleen, Terry, and Steve B I think I would not rule out the chances on a second moose for the group.
JJL
We watched a show last night (don't know what channel.....sorry) all about Bear Attacks in BC and Alaska. My wife and daughter had to leave the room, leaving just me and my son to view the carnage............cool. It was a little over-dramatized as most of the footage was captive bears shreading beef carcasses. Pretty impressive power. I'm not a-scared though.................I've got the Great Aksheeplesshunter backing me up....................:D. Most bear-human encounters happen to unarmed fisherman and hikers who panic and run instead of standing their ground. But still, if they want you........they've got you. Let's try and see them first. Bring'em on............I'm not a-scared. Besides..............they're soooooooo cute and cuddely. JJL

I see bear rugs...(black ones, though...-if it's brown...don't shoot!) ....and can smell bear and moose tenderloin on the campfire..... -and don't worry, we aren't counting out the possibility of a second moose... -JJ....-that is a great picture you found of those cubs....lol-
