dbHunterNY
It's hard to judge deer I think, but from what I know I'd guess 2 1/2 years old.
fly
It's hard to judge deer I think, but from what I know I'd guess 2 1/2 years old. The buck 2.5. There were a couple does that looked older.
SuperMn106
The buck 2.5. There were a couple does that looked older. I agree. The buck is probably 2.5. That doe in the last pic looks to me about 4.5 i would guess, a big ol' mature doe.

Straight Shooter
Very young buck, I'd guess he's a 1 1/2 year old. He has still got the very short head and baby look, undeveloped chest, if not 1 1/2 he no more than 2 1/2. Doe's are of all ages looks like to me. Adjam5
I don't know if that buck lost his antlers...Most bucks that have shed have empty pedicles on the head and it is quite evident that they had a rack. That looks like a yearling button buck to me that didn't have enough to shed. Very short snout and its body does not even look like a teenager( 2 1/2- 3 1/2), slim and trim. With no brisket. wtnhunt
The close buck in the first few pics looks to me to be a 2.5 year old, but your pic angles are a little tough to judge from. A 1.5 year old will often look like a doe with antlers, thin neck going into the shoulders and very trim.Really in my opinion it is good to look at them without the antlers and judge them. That deers neck is thicker at the shoulders than a does would be, but not as thick as a 3.5 year old bucks should be, area in front of the hams is fuller than a 1.5 year old, but not as thick all the way back as a 3.5 year old would be. The doe I think you are asking about is a 4.5 year old I think, nice and thick heavy bodied, but back not starting to sway too noticeably yet. At 5.5 she should have a little dip, but she is definitely a good sized doe.
Adjam5
One more thing I noticed is, the color of his tarsal glands. Very light in color. IMO a buck older than 1 1/2 would have darker tarsals from scrape making. But if you have seen THAT deer with a rack, hey... who am I to speculate. arrow32
From being around the area and know the deer I would have to say that buck is a 1 1/2 year old.
layin on the smackdown
I agree with Straight and Chris on this one...On the close ups of the deer in question, he doesn't seem to be sportin much of anything where antlers were if that is the deer you said was a six pointer. I would venture to guess he is a button due to the fact that all the deer i have encountered that have already shed have large circles of wierd texture where the antlers use to be...sometimes those areas are still bloody. Also, his chest, neck, and head appear to be rather fawn like...his body isn't very long at all, his tarsals are tiny, and his hoofs are tiny as well. On the other hand, i live in IL, and i have never really seen the phases of WV deer.
dbHunterNY
He has shed it was a 6 point about 13 -14" wide I don't know how good the genetics are in WV, but a rack that size (around here) doesn't really come from a 1 1/2 yr old buck. So I'm staying with my educated guess of 2 1/2 yrs old. I think differences in body characteristics between 1 1/2 - 2 1/2 yrs old are very subtle. It's like comparing a 2 1/2 yr old jaw bone to a 3 1/2 yr old jaw bone. Differences are subtle. I think that's why there's not a clear decision. - Dan

wtnhunt
Here he is with horns and he shed after 1 day of smokepole Does not look like a button buck to me. Still going with 2.5 year old for the same reasons I already posted. Guessing you are id'ing the deer by the scrape on his back?
