What's with Gander Mountain?

I'm not sure but location may have something to do with it.

I have a Gander Mountain 30 minutes from my house. The closest Bass Pro Shops is 2-1/2hrs away.

It's just my opinion but I believe the local Gander Mountain has more hunting gear and clothing than the Bass Pro Shops did.

I have no complaints about Bass Pro either...I just shop at the closer store alot more thats all.

In almost every thread about hunting equipment, I see recommendations towards Gander Mountain from all of you. I shop at Bass Pro most of the time and have NO complaints, but Gander Mountain takes 100% of the spotlight. Am I misssing something?????

Could be since Gander Mountain has more stores and is probably closer to the majority of us. I don't have anything against Bass pro, when in the area I always stop by there. But for convenience, Gander Mountain is only a 5 minute drive. It takes about an hour to get to Bass pro from here. In less time than that I can go in 3-4 different directions and hit another gander mountain. I guess I'm not really sure what the issue is here.:confused: Unless someone has bashed bass pro, I don't really see the big deal.

I agree, Kyle. Cabelas is an hour away. Bass Pro and Gander Mountain are too far from here. We have a Dick's Sporting Goods who do have some good sales now and then. They just do not have a large selection like the others.

With Cabelas you are paying a premium for all of those fancy catalogs, promotions, return policy, and the sheer number of stores. The markups are so high that when they do have a sale or give you that famous $20 off $100 you are still paying top dollar. The coupon book thing that just expired had some good discounts in it if you were looking for something in particular. Again, it was on select items. Once in a while you will find a good deal in the Bargain Cave if you can find your size. Markdowns are not all that great IMO

Personally not a fan of gander mountain at all. I would rather go to dicks sporting goods or wal mart or one of the non chain outdoor stores, they generally have better prices or I will order online from cabelas. Our gander store has been open for a couple years now, have heard they may be closing.

all three are WAY overpriced in my opinion! I have a gander mtn within 20 minutes of me and a BP and Cabelas within an hour and a half.

I can agree on the BP part of things. Thats the only store close at all. Id drive within 10 miles of it daily. Still, unless you hit some good sales a lot of their camo is way overpriced.

I really like Gander Mountain, but I only shop the bargains. They used to send me coupons and stuff in the mail, but I haven't received any for a long time .

Dick's is okay, they at least send flyers and stuff. Again, I mainly just hit the clearance/sale stuff.

Cabela's and Bass Pro, I've never been to one and rarely check out the online sales. Shipping just kills ya.

What is your problem with Gander Mountain?

When it comes down to it, I am a bargain shopper. I have three stores within 30 minutes of my house, Gander Mountain, Dicks, and Herb Phillipsons. I will shop all three for the best sales. I have shopped Gander Mountain enough to know when they have certain sales. I get some really great camo for around 40%-60% off. You will never see that at Bass Pro Shops on camo clothing. The only time I ever see a DECENT sale at BPS's is at their Fall Classic. Other than that I rarely shop their stores. They don't have anything worth driving over an hour to see. Its all right here.

We have a Gander Mtn about 40 minutes away. The Archery shop is OK, but I have gotten some good gun buys there. They have a great return policy and the guys in the gun shop know their stuff. I know because, I have asked questions I know the answers to, just to see if they knew what they were talking about. They did;).

I have only been to one Bass Pro. That is the one in SanAntonio. It was more of a tour than a shopping spree. Bargains are a BIG part of everyone shopping nowadays. To save the tax is like getting a 8.25% discount here in NY, so many purchases happen online, AFTER I go to Gander Mtn to compare:D

When Gander Mountain used to have their catalog sales, I would order from them and Cabela's both.

Since I am about 120 miles from Cabela's, that is the store I go to now. Most of the time, I order online or from their catalog.

There isn't any Gander Mountain or Bass Pro around here at all!

The Gander Mountain in West Virginia is the only one I have ever been in...They prolly have a mark up of at least 30% on their firearms and ammo. This is honest truth, you can drive 25 minutes from gander in charleston and buy the same guns for hundreds of dollars less, and ammo much cheaper...example Remington model r-15 Gander lists it for 1499, the other store...999, how do they think they can compete with that?? Thats why not very many people buy firearms up there. Granted they do have some great deals every once in a great while, and their shoe selection is second to none, but man i would say that 90% of their merchandice is horribly over priced.

I've got 2 Ganders closer to where I live than a BPS or Cabela's. I used to work at a Gander as well, and did the majority of my shopping there because of the discount I received.

I recently ordered a backpack from Eders because with tax and shipping I could get still get it less than the purchase price from Cabela's.

I don't really have a preference of any of the three. Before I buy something, I generally check all three and other sources before I buy.
