The shotgun is probably my most prolific, effective, squirrel meat gathering weapon. However, Lately, I have been trying to put a bit of sport into it, so I have a .22 hornet sighted and ready. Spitting out bird-shot also takes away from some of the enjoyment of the meal, not to mention the gobs of squirrel hair that gets pushed into the meat by the pellets. Some nice head-shot squirrel meat is a happy change in diet.

It's a lot cheaper than using the shotgun. Plus, I load my own which cuts down some on costs.

Also to put it in a little better perspective, it's no more expensive to shoot squirrels than it is to shoot paper (which I do also). In fact it is cheaper because I don't take as many shots when I'm squirrel hunting as I do during a couple hours of bench-shooting.
