buckee
I like to back in when I can, because it just makes it that much easier when you leave. I'm driving a pickup with a canopy though, and it's hard to see the traffic coming when you're backing out to leave, especially if there is another truck or van parked beside you. The difference is, that I know how to back in .
Steven
I always back in and I always hit it on the first shot- and it's always perfectly straight (just one of the skills you pick up driving a tractor trailer). I may have to do one pull-up to straighten up once a month. As a direct result of backing in, I can always see what I'm pulling out into when I exit my parking space rather than blindly backing out into somebody not paying attention to where they're going and focusing more on their cell phone. That's how my mom's car got totaled- yes, someone hit her hard enough in a parking lot to total her car.
lil hunter
I back in almost everyday at school. It's way easier to get out of a busy parking lot at the end of the day when theres 1000 other students trying to leave at the same time you are. I don't care if it takes me an extra 25 seconds to back in, I usually just sit in my truck for a minute or two before I go into school anyway. On another note, I also drive a big extended cab chevy. I can usually back in and get it straight a lot easier than I can just pull in, especially in full parking lots. If the lot is wide open, then I just pull right in, but in a nearly full lot, I like to drive past the spot first and make sure it is wide enough to fit in comfortably. So yeah, jus let us back in.lol.
layin on the smackdown
IF you figure people out, write a book. I sure can't see why people have to run red lights on there way to work, wouldn't it be easier to leave 3 minutes earlier? I think it would be easier just to be late....you are going to work....whats the rush, youre not going to miss the kick off...
Strut10
Buckslayer pretty much nailed it. When you back into a parking space, you do it from a position of control in the situation. You can visually clear the space of potential hazards and immediately back in. If you have pulled into a space, you will have to back out. All the visual inspection of the situation means nothing once you get into the vehicle, start it up and procede to back into your blindspot. Any number of hazards could have materialized behind you once you lost control of the situation by getting in the vehicle and prepared to back out. Beyond that.......a vehicle with the steering axle in the rear (as it is when you're backing uo) is infinitely more maneuverable than one with the steering axle in front. Ever look at a fork truck?? You can generally tell who the professional drivers are in the Wal Mart parking lot. They are the ones backed into their parking spaces.
