dogdoc
only time will tell---if he's the boss of the area then he probably will hang around that area if not he might go searching for new territory come breeding season. What keeps them around is food and girls! If you have plenty of that then I bet he'll be there come season time! Welcome to RT todd

buckbuster11
Re: Will he stay around? As long as there is not to much hunting pressure I bet he will still be in the area. Whether or not he will be 95% nocturnal by then is a different story...
AJ
Re: Will he stay around? As long as you don't spook him off trying to get closer and closer looks at him he may stay. Scouting pressure is as bad as hunting pressure. Long range scouting with binocs or a spotting scope is the best way. Maybe he has another area to chase does, who knows? Do you see many other deer in the area?
brad dryden
Re: Will he stay around? Well I now one thing I would stay out of their and then if you have a climber try to carry it in opening day I have better luck doing that or if you have a ladder stand or if you dont want to take a climber in their in the morning then go out their in the mid-afternoon when thir beded up and put up your stand. horst
Re: Will he stay around? Even leaving hunting pressure outta the picture the place you just described sounds like an agricultural area. That could very well be the deciding factor right there. Around here anyway by Oct 2nd theyre starting or well into taking the beans out.If hes staying in the corn and coming out to feed in the beans about dark and they take the beans out he may still be there but could be much harder to hunt.If he isnt staying in the corn he may start feeding in it after the beans come out and youll still have a good chance to catch him coming into the field before dark. Its always a gamble counting on agricultural areas to keep deer coming in that time of year and thigs change fast, even things like the fields being quiet to being full of tractors and people can turn them off. If he is with 5 or 6 other bucks another thing thats going to happen is they will split up and he will be by himself.Big bucks seem to be a lot more wary of things like coming out in the daylight when theyre alone, when theyre still bunched up with other deer early they seem to know that theyre safer with more eyes and noses to pick up danger in the fields. Id say he will still be in the area but I wouldnt count on the pattern hes using now to hold clear into Oct.You might wanna have a backup plan for tryin to hunt him away from the crop fields and if all else fails try not to pressure him to much untill the rut starts kicking in, if thiers does around he will be moving again by then. Sam16
Re: Will he stay around? The thing is, he'll be around, but instead of seeing him in the wide open fields he'll be holed up in a thick woodlot until dusk. For this you'd hafta know wheres he's bedding up and set up on a trail out of the area. From my experience of just viewing deer around my house, theres something in the summer where the deer seem so much more careless, and thats without hunting pressure. I still dont really know what it is, but theres something about summer that makes them seem dumber...
OJR
Re: Will he stay around? Welcome to the forums! He will probably be in the general area. Depends on the pressure the other guys are talking about. Don't be going in there too often! Hope you get him!!!
Tominator
Re: Will he stay around? how big is big? sounds like some of my situations in Ohio. he'll be around, but likely he's smart, and he's hanging out in that corn. once those beans are off he'll stick to the corn. once the corn is off, he'll be off to his safe haven, wherever that is. i think your best opportunity to get him would be on the first day or two of the season. pick an ambush site between the corn and beans. who knows. you might get lucky
sureshot
Re: Will he stay around? I have no idea abotu your area but where I live the chances would be slim ot none come oct ! Up here right now the deer are like on a clock, feedign up for the upcoming winter and rut, come the last week of sept beginning of oct the pre rut is starting and they are doing the rub lines, startign to scrape a bit and patroaling for any early doe in heat! I am not saying he will not be in the area, if the does are there he will be but do not expecthim to be as regular as now! I watched a group of deer 3 years ago every night at a pea field and a dugout, just like clockwork, the peas were combined and the farmer said eh seen the big boy bedded down in the grass all day! I seen them every night but not within the 30 yards I needed then one night none came and I noticed the hedgerows look like a plow went through, that buck had about a 7-8 day run, I seen him as far away as 4 miles and the 7-8 day he would be back checking his rubline by the dugout! I would be checking areas out aways from were you see him now to look for old rubs abnd scrapes from last year!If you find that chances are good he will be in that are come pre rut! I wish you all the luck and be carefull not to spook him, he did not get big for no reason! BTW welcome to realtree!!
