jesse8953
I bought a Bushnell trail cam it went through batteries like crazy.Cabelas gave my money back ,now I want a different brand. Any suggestions, looking at moultrie or cuddeback. Should I get one with the flash or the i.r. ? How are the battery life?

backwoods07
I have a couple Moultries that I really have no complaints about. The battery life is excellent; I've been getting about 8 weeks a pop. Trigger speed is decent as well, and the price is reasonable. Cuddeback has a camera for a fairly reasonable price. I think it's called the Capture and runs about $200. My hunting buddy has one on our land somewhere and it snaps amazing pictures. Just be sure to stay away from the wildviews! I had 4 that all went out after a season.
wtnhunt
Welcome to the forums. If you are at all handy, might consider building a homebrew. That is all I run anymore. Some of the newer cams out are supposed to trigger faster and give better pic quality, but still like the idea that when if my cams give me any issues, I can fix them myself with very little downtime. If I was buying one, I would check out the newer moultrie's, they are supposed to be better and they are priced pretty reasonable. Leaf rivers are solid cams too, their customer service used to be great, but may not be quite as good now as they used to be.
Jorden
I love our Cuddeback. The battery life is great and the pictures are awesome. IMO I wouldnt go with an IR camera, the pics never really impressed me very much.
backwoods07
Oh yea, to answer your IR or flash question, I've never owned an IR camera, but I have had troubles with the flash on a few cams going out. I think 3 wildviews and a moultrie lost a flash.

MUDRUNNER
My Moultrie has been a decent camera for the price.I have had to have two warranty replacements, but their customer service was to notch for me. If I had a little extra cash i would look into the Reconyx cameras.A few of my buddies have them and they are some of the best trail cams I've seen so far. Widowmaker
I bought the Stealth Cam Prowler with the 12 volt battery that sits at the base of the tree and it lasts for several months and hundreds of pics.

Washi
I've had real god luck with my Moultrie I40. Takes nice pics. Daytime are better than night naturally. I had one set of batteries last from April until December. They still had some life left but it was going to get real cold and I'm not going to check the camera for quite a while so I changed them just to be sure. The only complaints I can think of are slow reaction time (it may be just as good as good as other brands but it just seems a little slow to me) and the mounting strap and strap loops are pretty crappy. First I broke the strap snap so I tried to use a ratchet strap and broke the flimsy plastic when I tightened it. I ended up getting a mount that bolted to the bottom that works great though.
