Heavy Metal
Anybody else have a smoker or enjoy smoking meat? I bought a Charbroil Silver Smoker in May '08 and I'm totally hooked. Even through winter I've smoked at least once a month. Here are some pics of a few smoke outs and shhtuff! My last 4 smokes going back to the Thanksgiving Turkey (my first Turkey) I used all my own cured and cut Maple or Hickory. It's so fun and satisfying. And my family loves it! Next thing I wanna do is make my own lump/hardwood charcoal. I've found some how-to's on the web and just need to get myself a 55gal drum with a lid. Wonder where I can find one of those? Heavy Metal
man you are speaking my language....you should join us at the chuckwagon:) we did 9 racks of ribs for Christmas...10 lbs of brisket for New Years:) OH DUDE! I'm dying for some smoked brisket. I have yet to smoke a beef brisket yet. Just too expensive. But I've done a bunch of pork butts, shoulders all for pulled pork. I'm done with pulled pork. I like it, but it's not that great to warrant all the prep, extended smoke time and pulling after. I am going to use my couple remaining butts in the freezer to make bacon out of. That looks fun and we all LOVE bacon. What kind of smoker do you have? **sorry about the huge photos. I uploaded these last year....before I figured out you can upload at a smaller size, and now I don't have the native files anymore.

wtnhunt
Using an electric masterbult smoker here, works well for me. My family always enjoys what I cook in the smoker. Have probably done more turkeys than anything else. Deer hams in the smoker turn out really good. Never tried a beef brisket here, but have done plenty of different types of pork. Think turkey around here is the favorite though.

That was a java rub I got as a Christmas gift year before last, think I still have some left, will have to look to see the name on it. Was a bit skeptical of that rub, but it turned out to be some pretty good stuff. That smoker will cook two medium sized turkeys without any trouble. Masterbuilt has a bigger smoker they sell too. redkneck
I'm looking for an old refrigerator. An old guy at the fire dept told me the old ones (with the metal inside instead of plastic) make the best smokers. All metal, insulated, just knock out the bottom, and install your racks. Just some beautiful addition for my wife to stare at in the back yard......

We've gotta big 'ol honkin' oil tank outside the house (our house use to have oil floor heating apparently). **fires up the recip-saw** Oh yeah, I'm makin' that bad boy into a combo cold smoker and a side box smoker. Can't wait for Spring! I'll get some pics tonight and post it this weekend so you can see what it looks like now.

wtnhunt
electric smokers with a little apple wood is amazing. I just cant shell at 2grand for one. Did not give anywhere near that for my electric. I saw this one in sams club last time I was in there http://www.samsclub.com/shopping/navigate.do?dest=5&item=415076. Same brand that I bought from cabelas, and it has a bit larger capacity than mine. Been pretty happy with my masterbuilt smoker, does a really good job for an electric. Prior to the electric I used a brinkman smoke n' grill and was a bit skeptical of how well the electric would get the flavor in, but it does just fine.
