Holy Crap

It's only 1 week into the semester and I already feel as stressed as during finals week. I have 9 books to read for 3 classes. I don't have a lot of papers, just a crapload of reading. Plus I'm local chapter president of a national honor society for Criminal Justice Majors. I just feel sooooo dang stressed right now and I don't know how to handle it.

I'm pretty well organized and have a schedule of what I have to read when and know when I have to have stuff read by. What is freaking me out is when exams come in other classes, how the heck am I going to study and read and still have time to eat and sleep? Maybe I shouldn't be worried about this so much, but my grades are really important to me and I want to keep my grades and GPA up even through a tough semester.

Ok, done ranting, any suggestions? Anyone? PLEASE!!!!

Go out and fling some sticks:)

When I get stressed and need to clear my head, I do something that requires my complete attention.

I go and shoot my bow.

Don't worry you will get through this.

Hard work pays off in the end.

Wish I could, I don't have my bow at school with me and I'm not going home again until Feb. 6. Hopefully some basketball games and time with friends will help me out too though.

First of all...i went to EIU in charleston, im sure your familiar. My bow went with me every semester, so did my bird guns...

Secondly, Cliff notes....they saved my life on several occasions, as well as some friends. they are a little pricey, but worth it...there will always be someone you know who wants them, so pawn em off.

hope this helps:D

Welcome to undergrad. Wait 'til grad school. :D

What worked for me? I treated it like a job. Up at 5 every morning, study/read for 2 or 3 hours, off to class, came home, study/read/homework til about 9 at night, off to bed.

Every day. No let up, no procrastination.

It can be done if you have the will, sounds like you do. You can do it.

Oh, and coffee, lots of coffee. :D

I had a few minutes before tucking the kids in, and heading to bed myself...but,I saw your thread and felt compelled to add....

...I really admire your drive and high goals...

-You will definitely succeed and achieve your goals, with your attitude....!

-I understand your concerns....-

-I think the Cliff notes are a great help...-I have forgoten about those!- ended up flipping through them myself, when I was trying to tackle a 21 hour credit load, practice my French horn , piano and voice...and stage managing operas at Indiana University, some (20..??-yikes!-years ago) ...

also...-something that always helped me...-maybe try putting your reading materials in the bathroom....-you're bound to read several chapters at a time, in there...

I have felt your pain!

I also hear it from my students every semester.

Exercise worked great for me in undergrad!

Most student benefit from short study times as opposed to all nighters. After class take 30-45 minutes (later that same day/night) and review the content.

It takes a lot of dedication and a strong will to do so (it's much easier to wait and cram the night before a test).

Think about how much time actually goes into studying during an all nighter anyway? Study two hours, then check e-mail and the forums on RT for an hour. Study another 1/2 hour, get a call from friend and a visit from someone taking up another hour. Study another 1/2 hour (get bored and surf the net or play a video game for an hour). Study another hour and fall asleep until test time. Rush out the door to take test.:D

However is best I hope it works out for you.

flyer, I cannot cram for an exam. It just doesn't work. I cannot retain the material. I try to start studying 4-6 days ahead of an exam and just drill myself over and over. I'm caught up right now, I had time to go out with friends and do some stuff on campus and today we have a big basketball I'm going to then hang out with friends again and just relax. I know stressing accomplishes nothing, but I'm very good at it and I need to find a way to stop, especially with my profession. I'm a criminal justice major and I know stress is going to be an everyday part of my life, and I really need to figure out how to deal with it. But everyone, thanks again for the advice, support, and kind words. This place is the best!!:D;)
