Don't think fullfan has been back to read any of these replies, at least he has not logged back on as his last activity was the night he posted this. Not sure the reason for his post, but obvious it was not an accurate depiction of all prostaffers and certainly is not a voice for all average hunters. Some good replies here though and got to agree on Randy Oitker for sure, class act all the way and a great insightful post that sheds some light on what life on the road for a prostaffer is like.

Wow

First off what I said was not an personal attack on anyone here on this forum. I enjoy the time I spend here and I have made a few friends by being a menber. My wife always tells me that I should think prior to talking, and I guess she might have been right on this one. But I wil not tell her that. I posted what I did after spending the day shopping with the wife, I managed to talk here into going into a sporting goods store(large chain). There happen to be a pro-staff member there talking and attempting to sell several products. He was taking and answering questions. In my oppinion thes guy had no idea what he was talking about. I asked him a easy question about shotgun shells and chokes. He informed me that X brand shells and X brand choke tubes were the only combo for evey gun. Any way I could go on and on, my wife drug me from the store so I would not make a scene. I vented the entire way home, and then here on the forum.

I am a grown man of 45 years. what I said was wrong. When I am wrong I am man enough to stand up and say so.

"I was wrong to come here and run my mouth about something I know very little about."

I know and understand that there are some very good, honest and truthfull people that are hunting pros and the people that are pro staffers. They spend every waking hour chasing the dream.

I tip my hat to you folks, and Randy you could have slamed me like I deserved. But you shed some light on the working life of a pro staffer.

It is not all glory that I now see.

I am open for all the coments that I deserve.

Thanks for coming in and explaining your actions, Fullfan. I certainly accept your apology. After reading your reply I can relate to just what you are saying about the know it all attitude. A lot of these "PROMOTIONAL" staffers are nothing more than paid (either in salary or goods) salesmen making their pitch for whoever they work for. Their widgets and gadgets are always going to be the best, regardless. The trouble with a lot of them is that they think that everybody is wet behind the ears and don't know anything. Pretty easy to sort out those types.

Man...I gotta come in here more often. I went and read the post from the beginning.

It is all fixed now and straightened out...but I wish I'd knew someone was taking shots at OUR boys in camo:D. Might have gotten in some choice linguistic niceties while the wagons were circled.

Man FullFan you even got Buckee steamin'. The man don't have a bad bone in his body :).

I too have learned from the plethora of knowledge this board delivers. It is OK to make mistakes...as long as we learn from them.

Congrats on the great harvests of the past and hunt safe.

Fullfan, I accept your apology too. My initial anger was because I have 2 good friends that are prostaffers and they only hunt "do it yourself" style. I know first hand what they go through every year to capture some great video footage. Both are exceptional in their hunting ability and I'm blessed to have them as true friends.

Thanks for stepping up to your plate with your apology. No hard feelings bro.

  • 1 month later...

No kidding! I have been to Iraq twice and I won't leave my kids for any length of time ever again (well until they grow up and move out anyways). Although it would be an awesome experience to be a "professional" hunter it just would not be worth the time away from the family. How exactly do non-tv type pro-staffers become pro-staffers that just hunt close to home? I mean do they just send in pic's of themselves hunting while wearing RealTree camo preferably holding a trophy by the "horns"? It would be kinda nice to not have the camo expense to help buy other hunting equipment occasionaly but if it required trophy quality proof year in and year out there wouldn't be very many pro-staffers (as i'm sure there isn't) in my neck of the woods. Sorry to drag that out so long but I am just wondering, Thanks HardWayMike.
