MNhunterr
Hi guys, I have a question for the more experienced bow hunters here. This will be my first year bowhunting and I need some advice as to which bow to get. I've really put thought into which bow I want to get but I haven't tried many out. I need a half cheap one that won't cost 800+ because I'm a college student working part time. I was looking around at my local pro shop and was recommended to look at the "X3" by Mission. I looked into it and saw that it was about 400.00 for the bow itself, exactly what I was looking for. I also failed to mention I got 200.00 gift cards for Christmas for that pro shop. I want you guys to give me some advice on this particular bow, or brand. I know a few members here have Mission bows. I was also looking at this bow http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_101073____SearchResults Anything is appreciated. LifeNRA
Shoot ALL the bows that are in your price range! Then pick out the one that feels the best and that fits you! Everybody is different, sure we can tell you what we like! Doesn't mean you will like it!

Just because it is good for one person doesnt mean that it will be good for you. Make sure that you try different types and styles. Good luck. But I will tell you what I know about the X3 since I own one. I am also fairly very new to bowhunting. I tried an X3 and I really liked it. I liked the cost and I really liked having the Mathews quality and lifetime guarantee. It is a real shooter and 3 weeks after I bought I shot a turkey. I couldn't be more happy with my first bow. It seems like it would fit my price range the best and felt like a really nice bow!
m gardner
You really need to shoot the bows you're interested in. The Bear is paralell limb bow and will just sit there after you shoot. The Mission may try to jump out of your hand being a conventional limb bow. I'd lean towards the Mission but I love my Mathews bow. RangerClay
Thats what I was lookin for!! So have you had any problems with the bow or anything?? It seems like it would fit my price range the best and felt like a really nice bow! Not one bit. I really, really like the bow. Plus I have trade in value if I want to trade up to a Mathews Drenlin or a DXT. My pro shop owner said he would give a trade in value of exactly what I paid for if I wanted to trade up (15 month after I bought it). But right now I don't see why I need to. Dakota
I'd have to agree, don't pick one until you've shot all the ones in your price range. Dakota
PotashRLS
You are getting excellent advice here. I would also add that you don't necessarily need to get caught up in all the super wonderful latest and greatest accessories out there. They can nickel and dime you out of your price range quickly. Wisker Bisquets and prong style rests are excellent for beginners and "experts" alike. Good sights exist for under $50. On and on and on. Also, if your Pro Shop guy is not willing to work with you, he should not get your sale!
HUNTINGMAN
I agree with shooting all you can until you find one comfortable for you.Dont rule out the package bows, some manufacturers are putting out quality packages that can save you some green as well. EKYhunter
Great advice above. One thing I'd add is that there are some smokin' deals on Archery Talk right now on used bows if you have an idea of what you want and know your draw length. There are some 08 Mathews and Bowtechs for sale in the $450.00 to $500.00 range and some of the Bowtech Guardians are new in the box! You could buy a used bow and then use your $200.00 in gift cards to accessorize you bow or get arrows. Best of luck with whatever you decide! MNhunterr
Hmmmm, whats that "Archery Talk" you're talking about. Haven't come across anything with that name in my many hours of searching.
EKYhunter
www.archerytalk.com is a website devoted to all things archery. Most would agree that it is the best bowhunting/archery site on the web. When you get on the site, click on the "Forum" tab and then click on the "Classifieds" heading. You'll see lots of sub categories including one titled "Bows for sale or trade." There's even a left handed bow sub-category. You'll find many great deals on all types of bows, arrows, realeases, etc. Hope this helps!
Leo
Make sure you have enough money for arrows, broadheads and a target. Whichever bow you get you're gonna need to practice a lot. You can always upgrade your accessories later get what you can afford now. A rangefinder is the most useful expensive accessory you can get, so get one soon as you can. redkneck
Excellent posts. Shoot them all! And dont fear a used bow. Lots of bows out there 2 years old, hardly shot, worth $1,000 with access when new, that you can pick up for 350 bucks or so. Just take your time, shoot a lot of bows, dont get caught up on brands, and you'll find something you love.
