Kind of a rant....Buckmasters

I received a phone call stating, "I understand you're interesting in becoming a member." I replied that I used to be a member many years ago. Then I got the, "We can make it easy for you, we'll take your credit card for a five year membership at $130.90, you will recieve yada yada...". I replied to mail me the information and I would consider it then. He immediately gave me to another guy who said, "Congratulations on deciding to be a member, I can take your credit card information and you'll recieve your membership package...yada yada...". I once again informed this fellow that I prefer to get the information in the mail at which point I will consider the membership. He agreed, confirmed my address and hung up.

I received, several days later, an invoice in the mail for $130.90 with a membership number, etc. on it. I was fuming!!!! I phoned the 1-800 number, only be answered by a young man who commenced to 'educate' me on how business is done and that I agreed to the membership and am responsible for the billed amount. I informed him to please attempt to get the money since I signed no agreement, gave no credit card information, nor stated that I agreed to a membership. He stated I was responsible for the invoice amount...at which point I stated a couple of explanatives and hung up.

My wife took over from here....called back, spoke to a manager who stated to simply write "cancel" on the invoice and mail it back...that he would personally handle it. He seemed a little jammed up as well about the fiasco.

So, the moral of the story has escaped me...but is this what the country has come to? It upset me that a 'family oriented organization' would treat me this way. I had full intentions of maybe doing a one year membership...but definately not five. Now I just have such a bad taste about it all that I'm not doing anything. I can only assume that I was in contact with all the wrong people...so I'll leave the jury out. However, I can't help but realize that this type of activity can and probably does lead some to assume they have to pay the invoice amount...taking money off the table when it's so drastically needed in many households.

What you say?

I agree 100%. Buckmasters burned me BAD a long time ago. I had to fly off the handle to get anything done.

They were borderline harassing. My wife had signed me up for my birthday. After that it took an act of congress to get them to leave me alone. I think a LOT of this needs to be brought to light. I never hear anything good about the company. Its always the same thing. Pressure, Pressure, Pressure.

Yeah they are rediulous. I got on their website one day to look at something. Had to sign in............I kid you not 3 minutes later my phone rings...........We would like to thank you for signing up on Buckmasters.com and want to welcome you to Buckmasters. You will be recieving an invoice in the near future ......................That's where I cut him off. He started that well don't you want this and that crap. I told him that the stuff they send out is junk and I don't need any of it. Told him if I recieved anything I would be calling the BBB......................

Never seen or heard from them again.

Anti Buckmaster fan here also... PITA

I bet you are not through with them yet over this ordeal....I would fire off some emails to Bushman personally, post on his camospace, post in the buckmasters.com forum or whatever....I am betting you are far from done with them yet.

I hope I'm done...and I'm glad I'm not the only one that thought this was a little off kilter. My wife, who is very high strung, etc...went at him with the Attorney General's office, BBB, etc. So hopefully they're done with me...because she certainly won't stop here if they come again. I guess I'm lucky to have her after all:D

I had a similar experience several years ago. Five year plan, so much a month. They sent an bill for the 1st 2 months, then it went about 3 I never got anything. Then I got a bill showing X-amount of dollars. I called and questioned what was going on and was told they no longer had that special, it was this amount. I explained that the agreement was XX for 6 months, they said it was but I failed to pay to the agreement, I said, I didn't get the form & envelope to send it in. I was told, you could have gone ahead and sent it without the form & envelope, SO, you have to pay THIS amount! NO, cancel the membership!! The problem is that Mr Bushman has hired a tele-marketing group to do membership drives, then they use wrongful tactics to make more money. I hope he realizes what it does for his name.

I would think a outdoor organization would treat prospective members a little better than that.

I too, have gotten the harassing Buckmasters calls and I told them to go scratch. Never heard from them again.

I don't like Jackie Bushman or the show. He is way too self promoting and thinks he is the cats meow. He is far from it.

This is news to me.

Never knew that about Buckmasters (thanks for the tip).

Now my wife gave a small donation to the fraternal order of the police. Then every few months they would call asking for money. We asked numerous times to have them take us off the call list and now (5 years later) they still call.

From what I understand... REAL Police charities/not for profits are NOT supposed to ask for money over the phone. It should always be in mail form with a Tax ID# .

That's another one!!!! Every three days I get a call...and simply hang up.

But, like I said on the BM thing...it's putting a 'family oriented venture' in a bad light. He should go back to playing tennis. I also noticed, maybe I'm wrong, that the 'hunt giveaway winners' on the show seem to be getting all the cull bucks!!
