If I remember right, I took it about 16 years ago at a local Sears. They had a classroom and everything. I do remember it being very boring. The only good thing about it was that we got several breaks and the Sears where I took it was located in the Mall, so there was plenty to do and eat. And since I had been driving my dad's truck since about age 12 in empty developments where he was building houses, I aced the driving test in half the hours required. I'll never forget that. The instructor took my out during rush hour traffic. When we got back, he said, here's your certificate, you can drive, don't worry about coming back tomorrow. :D

I remember and I actually try to forget! My drivers ed teacher was also my sister's, my mom's, my dad's and my step dad's. Which of course he CONSTANTLY reminded me of (real dad was a race car driver, step dad went to UCLA on a full ride to play football, he also reminded me of this everyday!). He was also the freshman basketball coach - who cut me I might ad.

Anywho.... on the day of my test, my mom decided to let me drive us to the DMV...on the way there this idiot in the turn lane facing us, turns right in front of us almost causing us and a couple cars to crash. My mom SCREAMS at me, yanks the wheel out of my hand pulling us right into an old pickup who is about to smash us, I get the wheel back from her go the other way and swerve zigzagging through the would be pile up..... and we escape unscathed. I get to the test, I'm so rattled I'm shaking now. We take off into town on the same rout everybody in my family once took and I fail to yield the right away at an intersection..... automatic failure! Now me and this grouchy old man who's pissed I failed to yield and is giving me an earful all the way back, are driving back to the DMV. Not 400 yards from the parking lot I feel something on my leg. It's early summer, I'm wearing shorts. I look down while driving.... yeah.... a yellow jacket is all over my leg thinking about going up my shorts. I semi-panicked started swatting and tensing up. He starts yelling at me again, I tell him "BEEEEEEEE!!!" It goes away, he never saw it and now.... he thinks I'm a complete drug addict kid. And you have to wait three weeks before you can take it again. Passed though the second time!

Telling everybody I failed was the single most humiliating thing in my childhood.... accept being held back in the 6th grade, but that's another story!

...yes...I took mine at Sears Driving School also- in Dallas, Texas, when I was 15-

(I already was pulling horse trailers before then, though-)

-there were 20 Camaros lined up in the parking lot for everyone to train/test in-

-can you imagine a bunch of teenagers learning to drive in camaros??

-I thought that was normal at the time, though...

-and then, the classroom...-DEFINITELY not boring...-all the "Crispy Critters" movies to scare us into safe driving awareness....

Never play with grammar/spelling when there is a teacher around...

Luckily you did not get detention...:p

Took Drivers Ed 1980 in High School in a "K" car.

I went to a all boys Catholic High school, taught by the Jesuit Brothers. They wore these black robes and looked like the old wrestler Baron Miguel Sicluna .They taught drivers ed as well and they smacked the daylights out of you when you messed up. At drivers ed, they didn't hit you when you were driving. They waited until the car came back to the school and then out of no where came the smack upside your head. They never told you what you did wrong...just hit you:rolleyes:...Oh yeah...and you never went home and told your parents...You'd get another beating. You see if they hit you , you HAD to be wrong. So came another beating. Ahhh the old days...:D

Imagine if that happened today?

I took it in high shcool my junior year in 96-97.

I was 16, and my high school soccer coach was my drivers ed teacher....who was a heavy drinker...and read the newspaper on his drive to work....

At the time, i thought since you could turn right on red, that you could also turn left on red....

i was later informed, as i was asked to get out of the drivers seat, that it is illegal to turn left on a red light regardless of the situation...:D

needless to say it was boring and i still passed.

1997 is when I took mine. That was so fun I can still remember the class & the teacher. I had been driving for a while on the farm. The teacher figured out that I had been driving for a while she would let me go a lot further than anyone else. She had taken the same trip for a couple of weeks & wanted to see something different. We were on the interstate & took the back dirt roads on the way back. It was kind of nice she would sit back in her seat and enjoy the ride.

Thanks for bringing back some good memories... Hunt
