redkneck
Just two more days to hunt for a lot of us. I personally haven't been seeing much of anything lately. Seems like I can't pay a deer to step into a food plot last few evenings I've been. Any of you guys pulling a rabbit out of your hat over the next couple of days? I'm thinking of just trying something....anything different. I had a great year, just last few weeks have been disappointing. Oh well, I always look forward to getting the dogs to chase some bunnies in Feb, about as fun as deer hunting.

Rhino
Stick a fork in me...I'm done. I know we have a couple more days left here in MS and I have 1 more buck left in my bag limit but my fuel tank of enthusiasm for deer hunting has run out of gas. I usually start running out of gas around this time of the year but I put a lot of time in the woods between Oct. 1st and mid January in MS. I threw in a couple of out of state bowhunts in late Oct. & Nov. this year too. I didn't see much happening this past weekend either. Morning activity was dead and afternoon activity was down to the last 15 or 20 minutes or so of daylight. I sure can't complain. I've had a great season this year with 2 out of 3 bucks killed scoring near or at 140" (gross, nets are for fish). Both found their way to the taxidermist. The 1st one was an IL bowkill and the 2nd during the 1st MS primitive weapons season. Anyway, time to head down to camp tomorrow to loosen and pull some stands, do some post season scouting, etc. Won't be long before I start my pre-season scouting for spring turkey season. redkneck
Man, you had a great year! I just cant help it, i got to go the last weekend at least once. Dont know if i'll take my bow or 45-70, or if my girls want to try to kill one this year. I'm with you on the birds. I cant wait till march to hear some gobbles. I just hope out of all the countless hens i saw this year they'll drag in a few gobblers. In the meantime it's running rabbits, and hopefully with some rain to put the creek up a bit i'll pull out a few blues out of my favorite hole. But this is one of the best times in the year to do some scouting. 2 Bucks in the 140's.......WOW! Congrats again!!
Rhino
Man, you had a great year! I just cant help it, i got to go the last weekend at least once. I understand...there will be some diehard go getters hitting the woods at our club probably starting tomorrow morning. They will certainly be there in time to hunt tomorrow afternoon. It sounds like it will be a light crew though. One friend of mine sent me an email titled "Grand Finally" so he's fired up. I'll be around there to enjoy the social activities outside of my stand chores, etc. but I'm leaving all the weapons at home. Anyway...good luck and I hope it's a memorable Grand Finally for you. rhine16
I had no classes today, so I drove home at 4 am. Was in stand well before daylight... saw one young buck about 100 yards away and 2 does. Turkeys everywhere though! Including one that put on a show strutting This evening brought nothing to the food plot I chose to sat. I decided to call it quits there. Ole Miss rolls into the Hump noon Saturday... think I'm going to be there instead of a stand. Looks as if the weather will be warming in preparation for rain Sunday anyway. I had a good season. A doe and 2 bucks with the bow. Let many decent bucks walk, just never saw one I wanted to shoot after I got the first two. My 7 year old brother got two good ones... I was playing guide on one. My dad got an 110" buck with his bow day after Christmas... his best to date with the bow. Overall, a lot of smiles and lessons learned... Successful season in my book. Good luck on the last two days!
