Wisconsinboy
does anyone have this in there vehicles? i have it on my escalade but i have not suscribed to it yet. do you think it would be a good idea? its $17 a month for the basic one and then it goes up from there but you get more stuff. is it worth the $17 a month? with the basic plan i can get Automatic Notification of Air Bag Deployment, Remote Diagnostics, Stolen Vehicle Tracking, Remote Door Unlock, Roadside Assistance, Remote Horn And Lights, and there are a few other things. Shaun_300
Re: On Star I don't have it... but if i had an escalade i sure would get it!! my dad's boss's Hummer got stolen out of the Corel Center parking lot in Ottawa last year when he took his kids to an Ottawa Senators game... On Star saved it, the theif was on his way to Montreal to put it on a ship to take it overseas and strip it. the dummy stopped at tim hortons for a coffee and the police surrounded him and arrested him i would say its well worth it. the escalade is one of the hotter trucks on the market right now. waterfowler_gal
Re: On Star It's worth it if you have a nice vehicle. I use to work at a Cadillac dealership and it's worth it! Did I say that already!?

GWSmith
Re: On Star Here is what theives can do for free: Remote Diagnostics(they scope out your ride to see if its what they want to steal). Stolen Vehicle Tracking(they will keep a scanner handy to keep from being caught by police). Remote Door Unlock(commonly known as a Rock) Roadside Assistance(leave it parked there and they will assist you with moving it) Remote Horn And Lights(Your little key fob has this feature and inside the chop shop 200 miles away they dont work anyways). Automatic Notification of Air Bag Deployment(when they crash yor Escalade into some retaining wall...they will recieve this feature free). NOW ask yorself these questions again: Do you think it would be a good idea?..... Is it worth the $17 a month?
Guest 2500HD
Re: On Star No the $17/mo is not worth it until the first time you need it because of an acident or its stolen or something. I have never used mine on my HD but you never know when you will need it! Funny story about OnStar and if it was worth it. A alderman in a small town around here was worried about his wife working late or not home when she was supposed to be or something so he called OnStar and said he could not find his vehicle. They told him they had it located in St. Louis and the address which was a Motel 6. He went over there and found his truck so he waited and a little while later she comes out with the chief of police! OOOpppps! Guess his $17 was worth it! OJR
Re: On Star I have it in my Olds Bravada. The basic is the only thing we have. During the summer, I use the phone service. We don't have any complaints and once we came on an accident and it sure was great to get the cops and ambulance there!
JimT
Re: On Star I do not have it. I probaby would get it if I could in my wifes car. Just for the piece of mind.
Tominator
Re: On Star I have the capability in my 2003 Silverado, but don't see the need for it as long as my cell phone has a charge. Although, my cell phone might not work if I ever lock my keys in the truck.
Bow Hunter Derek
Re: On Star I have it on my Suburban. I'm still in the free first year plan. I have not had to use it yet, other than the activation call to On Star. I do like the phone feature. It is handy, especially when I'm in a roaming area for my work cell phone and I need to make a personal call. I just use the On Star phone. I will probably renew the basic service at the end of my free year. One of the guys I work with was coming back from Florida last fall and had something in the transmision fail on his Suburban. He just hit the On Star button and activated his account with a credit card. It cost him about $50 (as I recall), but On Star made arrangements for him to have his vehicle taken to a GM repair shop free of charge, so he was actually $ ahead. I'd say yea, it's worth it, especially on a high end vehicle like an Escalade.

snapper
Re: On Star I didn't get it with my '02 HD...guess if something happened it would be nice to have, just can't see spending the monthly bill when chances are you'll never need it. Sorta like a cell phone, I hate phones and don't see a need to pay an extra monthly bill for something I don't like. However, if I broke down or something...would be nice to have. I guess if you can afford it...get it.
LifeNRA
Re: On Star I had it for two years, its a nice idea but I spent $400 in years just to talk to the OnStar rep! Not worth it in my mind!!! I just wasted my money!
archerjg
Re: On Star My borther in law has it on his Trailblazer and Dad just ordered it on his new truck. It is worth it just for the peace of mind that it provides. Archerjg
stevebeilgard
Re: On Star i wouldn't have it! some states will issue speeding tickets, as they know just how fast you're going. now, if they know how fast your going, it's safe to know that they (govt) knows just where you are. big brother is there, and watching. not for me
wtnhunt
Re: On Star So long as our cell phone works, dont see a need for it. We did have onstar on the rental suburban we had while the yukon was in the shop, and there were some places in Arkansas where it did not get a signal, but our cellphone did . ZooBear
Re: On Star I dont think putting a tracking collar on my truck is a good idea. I have insurance if its stolen.
dogdoc
Re: On Star yep---we have onstar on our Avalanche--my wife's vehicle. I think it is worth it. She has locked her keys in her car before--called onstart--poof--the doors were unlocked. It also saves on insurance--if your car is stolen it can be tracked--once the cops get behind the vehicle onstar can kill the engine--you have your vehicle back. If you are ever involved in an accident--the air bag goes off--police are notified immediately. todd
