toddyboman
Not a big Manny fan but what a combo that would be.......WOW But I can't believe it will ever happen. Pujols wants Cardinals to pursue Manny Ramirez By DIONISIO SOLDEVILA, Associated Press Writer Jan 29, 4:51 pm EST SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic (AP)—Albert Pujols is encouraging the St. Louis Cardinals to sign Manny Ramirez. The Cardinals slugger, who won his second NL MVP award in November, acknowledged the team might not have enough money to land the free-agent outfielder. “I speak with Manny every three days and he tells me, `Man, no one wants to sign me,’ Pujols said Thursday during a news conference. “I’m not an agent or general manager, but I can’t understand how Manny has not signed.” Pujols passed along Ramirez’s telephone number to St. Louis manager Tony La Russa. “Maybe St. Louis doesn’t have the money to sign him, but he could give them a discount because St. Louis is a great city that supports its players,” Pujols said. Pujols plans to play for the Dominican Republic in the upcoming World Baseball Classic. He is coming off surgery on his right elbow. “I’ll represent the Dominican Republic while I’m healthy,” he said. “The only thing that can stop me is if I feel any discomfort.” http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news?slug=ap-cardinals-pujols&prov=ap&type=lgns
MCH
Would be great for the Cards, but it will never happen. I don't see anyone but the Dodgers in the market for him. Kind of sad because he is a great offensive player, but his attitude, defense and monetary demands make him hard to sign.

It would be great for the Cards and Pujols.....but I am not a big Manny fan for the reasons you listed above so I am fine with it not happening. But can you imagine the number those two guys could put up hitting back to back all year......

MO just doesn't have the OK to spend that much money.

deerslayer06
Manny in a Cardinal uniform would be amazing! He is one of the best clutch sluggers in the game right now. the key point here is "right now". There is definitely NO WAY the cards will be able to meet his "needs" of 5 years @ $25 million a year. Way too much money for his years of age 38-43. would be cool though. but not a serious conversation.
SuperMn106
It would be a great pick up for the cards. I do not think they can afford him though. Imagine what that would do to Pujols' numbers if Manny bats behind him. Pujols has said all Manny wants is a place where the fans are supportive. If you were in a place (Boston) that talked about trading you every year for 5 years straight, I think you would get tired of it too. Not saying that Manny is an Angel but he has an excuse to somewhat act like he did.
muggs
Look, I love Manny because thinking of him in a Tribe uni along side Thome, Albert Belle, Sanny and Roberto Alomar, Kenny Lofton etc... takes me back to those tremendous Tribe teams of the 90s. The guy can rake...when...and only when he's happy. He is by far the worst fielder in the history of the game, a cancer in the clubhouse and at his age, no team needs that. I'm sure if you asked the BoSox their thoughts, they'd let you know how it really is to have ManRam on your squad. Remember when I said something similar about Andruw Jones and you guys raked me over the coals? Manny is 1,000x the hitter Jones ever was- but this is along the same line. He'll produce for you, but what he'll detract from your team really outweighs that. Give me hardworkers who have less talent than a guy like that- and my boys will run over and through your;s every time. Give me a Grady Sizemore- type. A Manny- no thanks, he can hit his HRs at $500,000 a pop on some other team that won't make the playoffs. Unfortunately, I see the Yankees signing him. Super- you ever wonder why the BoSox talked about trading him for 5 years straight?
MCH
I'm not sure the Yanks can, Muggsy. There's some obscure rule concerning the amount of Type A&B free agents that a team is allowed to pick up each year and I believe the Yanks are at their limit. VABuckSlayer
He just turned down 1 year at $25M from the Dodgers. Is there a chance he will not get a contract this year???
MCH
I'm pretty sure the Giants or the Dodgers will sign him. Leaning towards the Dodgers. While I think the Dodgers can contend for the NL West without him, with him we could contend for the World Series.......that's if he's happy and the longer he goes unsigned the less likely that scenario is. Manny is an average fielder with an above average arm. Sometimes his arm can make up for an error. He is also a sensational hitter. I don't remember, but was Mannys attitude that bad with the Indians? I just think and this might be me, but if you get him in a place where the fans love him and show it and support him, he probably would not e a cancer. Bowtech_archer07
I am a huge Cardinals fan and think it would be a great combination to have Pujols and Manny together, but GM John Mozeliak squashed those rumors very quickly saying that the Cards had no interest in Manny. That's what he said, but like I mentioned earlier, Mo doesn't have the money to buy Manny.
