too_pointer
As many know, I have a laminated stock from Boyd;s coming for my Encore, also a Simms recoil pad. It is very possible the pad will make the buttstock too long for me. For those who have cut their stocks down, what is the best method for doing that ? too_pointer
David_218
Re: Cutting down a wood stock The Length-of-pull might be a little too long for you. I'd have a Gunsmith install the recoil pad for you, to be on the safe side.

AJ
Re: Cutting down a wood stock Its not extremely hard to do. Put a layer or two of tape around the stock and draw your cut line. Be sure to have it even on both sides of the stock. You can use a variety of different ways to hack off the wood. I have used hand saws (hard as you have to watch to keep the cut straight and equal the whole way through. I have used band saws, table says, chop saws, and had good success with each. Just keep the stock parallel and perpendicular to the blade. Remember, your pad will not fit exact after you cut the stock.
too_pointer
Re: Cutting down a wood stock AJ, if I use my table saw, what type of saw blade is the best ? I imagine more teeth the better ? Also is masking tape o.k. to use.? too_
AJ
Re: Cutting down a wood stock A good sharp one with a whole buncha teeth. Yep, I use masking tape. Remember that you can't just run the stock flat ont he table. You may haev to shim it under the gripso your cut will be perpendicular to the barrel. My buddy took hig multi thousand dollar exhibition grade english walnut stock down on a planer. The comb was too high for his liking so he took off 1/16" and tried that. He repeated it until he liked how it broke the targets. Once it fit him, he sanded and finished the stock and now he shoots it very well. It is a $20K Krieghoff K32.
