ruttinbuc
Check out the Indiana monster buck kill on this website. To think of these bowhunters and what they go through to even kill a buck let alonre a state record.....With this buck down and Michael Waddell's big buck I suspect you will be seeing an Indiana buck rush. don't forget your concrete deer decoy.... http://www.american-hunter.com/
HUNTINGMAN
That is a truly awsome story and pics,I cant wait to see if the deer is eligable for the record books. Not much of a fair chase but I would have done the same thing this guy did. SuperMn106
That is a truly awsome story and pics,I cant wait to see if the deer is eligable for the record books. Not much of a fair chase but I would have done the same thing this guy did. I do not know why it would not be fair chase. It was not a high fence hunting situation. The deer had free roam to do what he wanted and go where he wanted. He just chose to fight a concrete deer statue. I was chalk it up to one lucky hunter. I do not have a problem with him shooting the deer while it was pinned down. For one, he had already hit it once, and another reason, is that it would be the same thing if you came upon two deer locked up. Congrats to the hunter on a Great buck! Tominator
Great deer, but to me, not fair chase. Hard to tell if the deer got knocked out, or if it was pinned down. Either way it had no way of escaping, ergo, in my opinion at least, not fair chase. He should have hit it with the first arrow, lol.
Dakota
Wow, that's a big ol' buck and one lucky kid right there! I think the whole thing is debatable. I mean, the kid wounded it with the first shot, ethically he was obligated to kill that deer now. I think it was fair chase, but that's just imho... Zambo
Fair chase all the way. The kid did not cause the buck to get pinned, it was done free will. What if you were hunting a fence line, shot a buck in the leg and he ran into the fence trapping himself. You would shoot him again. Where do you draw the line as to what a free range animal does and when it becomes not a fair chase kill.
fly
After extensive study and e-mails to P&Y last month I'd say with 99% certainty that the Indiana P&Y record is safe. Fair chase???? A tough call for me, but I'd say no. I doubt that first shot (in the leg) would have resulted in a harvest. Since the second shot was at a deer that could not escape or run I don't see it as fair chase. If a deer decides to run into a snow drift or deep water or mud and can't get away P&Y would not consider it fair chase. redkneck
Wow... never even thought about the fair chase issue. Sure wouldnt have crossed my mind as i nocked another arrow . But to me, like was already mentioned, a wounded deer runs into trouble and gets pinned, what else you going to do. I could give a #$%$ what the P&Y crowd thought of that deer head hangin on the wall in my living room.
Deb
He'd be on my wall and proud of it. Pinned by a concrete deer or tangled up in some vines or a fence after I shot it would make no difference to me. Fair chase to me. I kinda feel embarrassed for the deer, thou:rolleyes: ....... " Oh, how'd you get on the wall?.... I was hot for this concrete doe, got shot, went back for more, she pinned me, and got shot again. WHAT WAS I THINKIN'!!!!" redkneck
Yeah, that's great, Deb..... And btw guys, I'd mount the concrete one too......technically she's already mounted....so i guess i'd just stand her up in front of him.... layin on the smackdown
That is hilarious!!! And what a giant slob of a buck...there are two genetic sides to this story... 1.) outstanding genetics in terms of antler development 2.) Aweful genetics in terms of mental capacity... Natural Selection at its best there folks...:D:D
Leo
If a deer decides to run into a snow drift or deep water or mud and can't get away P&Y would not consider it fair chase. I believe that only applies if that is where the first shot is taken. I don't think whether the first shot is deemed lethal or not makes any difference. Plenty of bow hunters have deer jump in a creek after they are shot. If it's still alive when you find it you don't just wait for it to die in the name of "Fair Chase". Least I wouldn't. I guess we'll see what P&Y thinks.
wtnhunt
Saw this story somewhere before. Guess in a sense it turned out to be decoying working at its best.:D Fair chase or not, it was a great buck.
