The_Kat
I've always claimed single and 0, and Jenn has also. This we claimed married and 0 for the last six months of the year. Well after having our taxes done it looks like we owe the IRS around 3000$ and thats with us claiming her schooling and mine, my new truck, trailer, and all my travel costs. Sure does suck, especially when we were looking forward to a decent return this year. I'm going to a tax professional this week to see if they can find us anything better, or possibly a mistake on my part!
RangerClay
Next year will be better once you (hopefully) have a dependant.
Tominator
We've only owed once in 16 years of marriage. A lot of things can change taxes. Home, day care, bonuses, education, equity loan, charitable contributions, etc. Our taxes change every year. This year will be the first year in 15 that we can't claim the full amount for daycare. jbeck
Yep those dependants are something on taxes. Of course like any government right off you have to pay about 2.00 to get .24 back. LOL
Randy
I came out ok on the Federal but, I owe the state... I would have thought they owed me after working for them for over 12 years and paying taxes to pay my own wages...

The_Kat
ya I hear ya steve. What irritates me is Jenn's two worthless siblings who don't work are somehow getting over 1600$ back each????
OJR
Of course like any government right off you have to pay about 2.00 to get .24 back. LOL Remember, it is going to cost you more to get a "tax deduction" than it is to pay the taxes! There is no such thing as a "TAX SHELTER"! It is way cheaper to pay the taxes than to pay the items you get a deduction on! Also you have a little one on the way, when it arrives, you expenses vs what you can deduct will be a lot more! You are very lucky to have a job that pays you enough to owe taxes!
PotashRLS
You are very lucky to have a job that pays you enough to owe taxes! I was thinking the same thing. We are only seeing the tip of the iceberg:(
Shaun_300
Yeah taxes suck Kyle, I'm lucky to have my dad as an accountant, I surely couldn't figure all that crap out without one! I've lucked out every year I've been working, usually getting back between $1000 and $2000 a year.
wtnhunt
If you had H and R block or jackson hewitt do your taxes, I would look at doing them yourself with turbo tax. Both of those companies cost me money in the past, never again will I let anyone else handle my taxes. It is too simple to do yourself. We have no state income tax here right now(our liberal governor sure would have liked to have had an income tax though), however we have some of the highest sales tax rates, and even groceries are taxed in this state. fly
I generally get 500-2000 back every year. I have a guy do ours. I used to do them, but now it gets very complicated with itemizing, medical expenses, college, travel expenses, extrenal and internal research grants, etc... Seems like every time the expert I have do the figuring ends up saving me more than I'd come up with on my own. Hope it works out that way this year! texastrophies
Kyle, weren't you working in Texas for quite a bit of the year? Those wages probably (maybe) shouldn't be taxed by the state of Ok. Just a thought.
Gator
I'm actually getting back about twice what I got last year. Don't ask me how either!!!!! That's Fed, don't know about state, but it's looking like money back there as well. And I am using turbo tax as well

Every penny I earned was in the state of Texas, but my paycheck comes through Louisiana so it gets taxed by them, and since I live in OK I have to pay in to them. It sux...I'm getting double state taxed. I'm calling a the pros when I get off to see if anything can be done. Will post an update if I find anything out. I would be asking some questions on that for sure. If your employer is based in a state that has state income tax, unless I am mistaken that does not mean they tax you in that state unless you are actually physically working in that state. You should get back anything paid to the state of Louisianna I think. I could be wrong, but think I would be asking someone some questions on that, questions to both your tax preparer and to your employer. texastrophies
Probably need some help on that. I know my check comes out of Georgia, don't know if they have a state tax or not, but I do know I don't pay state tax because I work in Tx and no state tax for Georgia is deducted either. I worked for many years for a company that had employees in all 50 states and was headquartered in Pennsylvania. But since I was working in Texas, I never paid, nor did they ever withhold, any state income tax.
ruttinbuc
I don'tt know about Oklahoma, but look and see if there is a line that says: Taxes paid to another jurisdiction. If there is follow the instructions. I worked in PA and live in NJ and I was not liable for a lot of what they took out. Need talk to the accountants where you work to see how they figure the state taxes.
hunterDWL
I always get back around 5 to 7 thousand every year . Still not good considering they take around 30 to 40 thousand every year depending on how much time i work and so forth . I own my house so no deduction there and only one kid need about 4 more but i think i would not save in the long run lol
HUNTINGMAN
I thought I would have to pay in this year also but didnt, this is the first year we had to file married. My wife didnt work last year so she didnt have to file,we filed on just what I made and came out a lot better than suspected.I claim zero dependants through the year and it realy helps at the end of the year,I also had two kids to claim this year and that helped also. They took out right at 7000$ in federal taxes on me for the year, way to much.Taxes do stink but you cant beet the system.
