mathews4life
ok i have a 2007 dodge cummins diesel 6.7L and i'm looking to get a good sounding exhaust. Wanted to run straight pipes but the guy i went to said the truck wouldn't run good (he tried it on 2008 duramax) with straight pipes like 5.9L does bc the new ones have 2 catalytic(sp) converters. I dunno if this is true or not. i did put a 5 inch tip however it didn't do anything but just look good. i dont want to spend a lot of money changing the whole exhaust. just looking for a good deep sound nothing like some glass packs or anything. If anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated...thanks mathews
wtnhunt
Bet Shaun will have a good answer for you here. Really don't know much about diesels and muffler flow for them and how it effects performance. Guessing if the guy tells you it won't run right it probably might have something to do with backpressure or possibly even with sensors for the emissions that work with controlling how your engine runs. Having no cats wont hurt anything as long as your O2 sensor isnt after the cat.If it before it your ok. Best thing to do in your situation is to just get a Hi flow cat and a good aftermarket muffler and be done with it. Most hi preformance muffler companies have sound clips on the website so you can hear what they sound like before you buy them.
The_Kat
Glasspacks sound good on diesels. My buddy had a set of 16 inch duals put on his 04 dodge and it sounds great! Also have a welder here at work whose truck sounds pretty sweet. He has a dynaflow exhause on his. It sounds very clean, but can be heard if it needs to be. stevebeilgard
be sure to check and make sure that whatever you are planning does not void the warranty. that can be quite costly.

Shaun_300
I'd be pretty careful when doing exhaust modifications to diesels now a days because of the DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter) systems in the factory exhaust. If you put aftermarket stuff on it the dealership may void your warranty. If this doesn't bother you, I'd go from the DPF filter back and just replace the muffler to get a better sound from your exhaust. If you take the DPF out it will throw your check engine light on and may even put the truck into a limp mode. Unless there's a performance shop near you that could delete the DPF software from your ECU. If you do this don't expect any warranty from your dealer if something goes wrong. If you get a muffler make sure you ask if it can be put on a truck that has the DPF system on it. When these things do a regeneration to clean the soot out of the filters the exhaust gets REALLY hot. If the muffler is not designed for that kind of heat it may not last very long.
