woodshed
The scope rings that came with my rimfire scope don't fit on the factory supplied base. The base has a higher but much smaller "ridge" down the center of it that is dovetailed also. The rings fit over this, but they look like they are just barely grabbing it. They seem secure though. The scope sits higher but it's not distracting. Is this higher ridge intended for smaller rings or do they have to fit over the whole base? Anybody see this on there 10/22? doubleA
The base supplied with the 10/22 will work with both the "weaver" and 3/8" dovetail mounts. Going by what you posted, you have a set of 3/8" dovetail rings on your scope and they are attached to the groves ie "dovetail" in the middle of the base which will work fine. You are correct in saying that they barely look like they're grabbing but they have been the standard for .22's for many years and work well due to the lack of recoil. woodshed
thanks, let me ask you this then. The scope is prob. 1/4" or so higher than if it were all the way down on the base. Do you see this as a problem? My eye lines up with the scope good. From the side though, it just looks a little tall.
doubleA
As long as you are comfortable and have clearance of the objective end of the scope you are good to go. While not important with .22 rf's, on centerfire rifles you want the scope mounted as close as possible to the bore for ballistic reasons and cheek weld for handling recoil better.
