Strangest trip in the woods I have had so far>>>

Most of the Winstead family is fighting the sinus flu thing going around....so, being the supportive person I am., I stocked them up with chicken noodle soup, and warm tea....and headed for the woods for a couple hours to try and shoot some squirrels for dinner. Well, that didn't happen. I learned that raccoons in Illinois are in their prime time breeding phase, found (7) sleeping out in the open in forks of trees, or chasing each other (NOT IN SEASON) for their good luck., and apparently when the largest bald eagle I have ever seen in my life sits in a tree over you, its not only intimidating for you...but for the squirrels. Rec'd a call from the wife into my wonderful hunt, and was told to return home to help out with the sick ones. I really did enjoy the few hours I got out, followed tons of deer trails looking for sheds, treerats are in season till Febuary 15th....who knows..maybe Ill get out again. al

I took a few of the raccoons with the cellphone....those things can sleep through anything.....I put one really large boar in the scope from the 17hmr, and watched him sleep......if he was in season, he would of had a permanent nap indeed. Never in my life had I come across so many raccoons asleep in trees in the open....totally weird., but I guess when hides were only bringing 5.00 dollars and less, nobody puts em on the ground in the large woods I hunt. al

Nothing worse than when a bunch in the family are sick. :(

Vitamin C and rest is usually the best.

Guys are finding a few sheds up here but we have a lot of snow to deal with. My brothers got 2 rabbits yesterday for the crockpot tomorrow. I hope they invite me over since the little brother borrowed my .22LR:rolleyes: Take care.

Sorry to hear the rest of the family is sick Al...hope they all get well soon.

Yep it sure is nice to get out in the woods and sorta recharge your batteries. I spent most of the weekend loosing, pulling, and moving some stands. I also burnt up some shoe leather doing a little post season deer scouting. Got some more to do before spring greenup starts which is usually around March 10th (give or take a few days) down here. Won't be long before it's time to work in some pre-season scouting for turkeys along with my post season deer scouting efforts. ;)

Pretty rare to see "a coon" in the daylight hours, never mind 7 . WOW !!

You really do need to get yourself a good little camera Al ;)

I hope you all heal up quick. We got that sinus thing, and a bit of a cough, way back in November and still trying to shake the Mucus build up in the throat and nose.
