Guest DeerHunterForLife
I hunt in boone county on an alfalfa land and have had GREAT luck. My dad shot a MONSTER 7 Pointer and i shot a 5 point management buck. At first we weren't even going to hunt it but we changed our mind and are glad we did!!! jumper_89
A good alfalfa field is hard to beat. I have had great luck this year and in the past years. The only problem is getting the bucks withing range sometimes. The best way I found to get closer to a big buck that is patterned in the middle of the field is to make a ground blind out of big round bales of hay. I saved a few back this fall and in the early season and my fiance shot her first buck with a bow. The deer are so used to them, it does not bother them a bit. I used 5 round bales and made a pentagon shape. I spaced them out about 18 inches in between the ends, and finished it up by placing burlap from the ground up to about 24 inches high with baling wire. It works great and there is plenty of room for 2 people and their bows.
Dakota
Not only does alfalfa appeal to just deer, but elk as well in eastern elk country. Dakota
