Strut10
What area of the country are we talking about?? The cost of travel may factor into a lot of folks' budget for this sort of thing.

Plus non resident licenses, number of hunters, guides ratio to hunters, past successes and references
Tim Andrus
I dont have a specific local at this time just looking for what the average forum member could afford. for the hunt , tag. travel would be different for everyone. Probably would be mid west area ( kinda centrally located ) for deer. As far as turkey depends on what bird merriam . Rio and so on

007hunter
How about wild hog? I know they are relatively cheap to hunt and are plentiful. Just a thought...
stevebeilgard
i've never shot a big whitetail, and want to. if he has them, i'll be there for a chance at them. i'm really not interested in any more turkeys. too easy. lol
Tim Andrus
The fella i spoke with was from Tx but just looking for ideas and how much we (you) could spend
HOYTnMUZZYboy
I have been waiting for this post to pop up. I'm in. Just a thought but i'm sure if we had an exact number and the numbers were fairly high enough we could maybe work out some kind of a discount with an outfitter. I'm more of a deer guy myself but it's not all about the hunt, spending a few days with the realtree forum guys and gals is good enough for me. If anyone is interested in doin a deer hunt in IL I can do the leg work and get some outfitters info to a guy like Tim to call and see what they can't do. Only reason I say that is Tim Andrus is a lil more well know then myself haha. Or any realtree prostaffer for that matter.
layin on the smackdown
I know of a great outfitter in KS, affordable, almost put the birds in your lap, and KS is about the middle of the country...archery only is the way to go at this place...for a spring turkey hunt, 2 tags, license and room/board/food at lodge with a group is around $200 a person.. at least it was in spring 08 archery only. let me know if you want info... Swamphunter
I would love to, but not this year....I have a Wyoming Antelope hunt and a Uncle Gord bear hunt, both in Sept....
texastrophies
I could probably make one in Texas.;) I think the thing to do would be throw out what you are thinking and see what kind of reaction it gets. We have had hunts in Tennessee, Georgia, Colorado & Wyoming and I believe with the exception of Georgia, all had a pretty good attendance. If you are planning for this fall, it needs to move along pretty quick so people can make their plans.
PotashRLS
interested yes......How much depend can I spend...depends......Sorry I know thats not the answer you wanted. I unfortunately would have a similar answer. I thought the hosted hunts like Randy and Double A did would be a sweet type of thing too. Just my 2cents. Thanks for the consideration Tim! rookieee
I know of two real good outfitters in the San Angelo area in TX and they are under $3000.00 for one buck, two doe, one Rio Grand turkey and all the pigs and javalinas you can shot the non-res lic is about $315.
Dakota
I've got a buddy here in SD that guides for pheasants and deer (muley and whitetail) and you can even bag a fall turkey as well; there are tons of the thunder chickens! It's by Winner, SD and there are so many muleys and whitetails out there! I'll talk to him, tags are fairly affordable and easy to draw and everyone would have a blast. Just make sure you look out for the occasional wolf and mountain lion! What do you guys think? Dakota
WHISKEYSWAMP
I'd consider a merriams or rio grand turkey hunt... need those two for the slam. I have no idea what a guided turkey hunt would cost.
craig mack
I wish I could but money is too tight these days for me. Tim, maybe you should post a poll of what style of hunt people would prefer (turkey or deer) to narrow it down.
pendog
Tim simple answer: Turkey $500.00 Outfitter costs - $1000.00 Outfitter and all expenses Deer $1500.00 Outfitter costs - $2000.00 Outfitter and all expenses That is what the budget would allow. After this years Nebraska hunt all i need for my slam is the Osceolla, Rios are fun though;) Not sure if i could make a fall hunt this fall, when were you thinking? 2010 would be a go with no turkey hunts planned. Dakota
Heck! Why not reserve a campsite in the Black Hills for a week and chase some Merriams on national forest land? Tags are guaranteed, though you still have to apply, and birds are EVERYWHERE! Dakota
toddyboman
All sounds great......I think the interest would be there. Maybe we just need to be more specific on a dates and if we are going after deer or turkey....
Texan_Til_I_Die
I would prefer a deer hunt over a turkey hunt. I'm like Steve, there's so many of the darn things around here that they kinda lose their appeal. The midwest whitetail hunt sounds attractive, assuming there is plenty of space and plenty of tags. I'd also rather do a firearm hunt over a bow. Texas would probably be the easiest. There are a lot of big ranches and tags are relatively inexpensive and both whitetail and mulies are over the counter. Another good thing about Texas is that during the main season, you can use any weapon - rifle, shotgun, muzzle loader, crossbow or bow. The bad part is that outfitter/guide/lease fees are pretty high.
Texan_Til_I_Die
Oh, I forgot to answer the original question. For a budget, I'd be willing to go for something in the $2000 - $2500 range, assuming the hunt quality is there.
The_Kat
I would be interested in a whitetail or mule deer hunt. I have no interest in turkey hunting as they are plentiful here in Oklahoma. I could budget up to 3000$ for the trip total ( tags, lodging, travel ). I would need a few months advance though so I could begin saving up for it. I would also have to give my job plenty of notice.
RTPROFamily
Tim, That is a good idea. I will make a call to a friend in Missouri. Maybe we can get a whitetail hunt reasonable. If 10 people or more are interested we can probably get a group discount. The tags are over the counter and aren't as expensive as Illinois. I will try to find out by tonight! okiedog
I might very well be interested. I have always wanted to do a "out of state" hunt and meet new people, just never worked out. I'll watch for details:)
