Bowtech_archer07
Well, I don't know the reasons, but the archery shop that I have been going to for the last 5 years is closing. ccwhitey, parkergirl and my dad and ccwhitey's dad and brother have been going there for a while too. Like I said, no idea why they closed, but it kinda sucks. It was only 20 miles away and from March-September they hosted an archery shoot once a month. 30 targets for $10. Couldn't beat it. Like I said, it's sad to see a shop like this closing. It was family owned and had local people running it, and the people were friendly and knew their stuff. So, since I'm looking....anybody know of any good archery shops around Springfield, IL? Other than Two Bears.. I went there to get my first bow and they treated me and my dad very badly and we both got a bad impression from them.

craig mack
Alot of archery shops are closing because so many people shop online. To me, I would rather spend a couple extra bucks to keep a quality pro shop in business. But alot of guys work on their own stuff these days so they dont need a pro shop. Dakota
I would give anything for an archery shop like that around where I live. Bummer, Kyle! Dakota
Adjam5
Yeah that does bite. I do most of my shopping online also, but for big items(boots, bows and ammo) I always go to a pro shop. Money is tight for most, and many buy arrows, sights and broadheads on line. I guess this is the future, only the big boys can stay in business...sad. The_Kat
most folks will not pay the extra to shop locally, preferring to save 10 or 20 bucks by buying online. Can't blame them though, especially with the economy like it is. I also bet the economy has alot to do with your shop closing too. Sorry to hear, but maybe they'll have a huge sale where you can pick up some stuff super cheap.
Michiganbowhunter_SQ2
But alot of guys work on their own stuff these days so they dont need a pro shop. Yep, more and more people are starting to do teir own work. In the last year or so I have done a lot of my own work, from fletching my own arrows to changing out the string on my bow. I doubt I'll ever go to a shop again to get work done. Can't blame them though, especially with the economy like it is. Definitly can't blame them for that. $10-20 is $10-20, the few shops we have around here are over priced on everything they have in the store. The only thing I would go to them for is to buy a bow, everything esle gets picked up at Gander Mountain, or ordered on the web. Even the prices of bows area bit high. If I can save a few bucks by ordering online or going to gander mountain, darn right I am going to.
Bowtech_archer07
The economy is definitely taking a hit on small businesses everywhere, it's sad. On a different note, thanks rangerclay for the website!
ruttinbuc
There is a shop here that just closed his doors a little while ago. He was a major Hoyt dealer in the area who was around for a long time. I don't know what took him out, but I'd be willing to bet that the economy has a lot to do with it. It costs major dollars to keep up a business.
BowJoe
http://www.dravesarchery.com/ I stop at this place once in a while and they seem alright. Never had any work done but prices seemed the same as other shops. Guys were willing to talk to me and explain things. Might be worth the short drive. Good luck and let us know if you go and what you thought.
fly
Bet we'll be seeing a lot more of this type of thing. I'm sorry to hear about it. It's an hour drive from Springfield, but I go to TimBuckTu in Maryville Illinois. http://timbucktu-outdoors.com/ Great shop.
craig mack
The problem with all these pro shops closing is that alot of these places hold archery tourneys and youth shoots. These type things help get people involved in archery and if these places go away I think you will see a decline in archery hunters especially youths. I'm not knocking anyone who wants to save a few bucks, times are tight, but if you have a quality pro shop in your area I think you should support them if you can.
