Casey
Our neighbor property was sold to some Amish folks. About a month after it was sold, dad and I were outside and heard our lab barking. He only barks when something or someone is around that he don't know. We looked up on the hill and seen three amish guys look at us and then ran into the woods. After the deer season I went up to get my treestand down. I decided to keep going after I got it down to check out the rest of our property. Found a couple of rubs I missed and looked at the property line fence and counted four tree stands. On our land in my opinion we have the best places to hunt. We got a ditch that runs through ours and we got thickets. Their place has a good number of acorn trees and open woodlots. Before the amish the other land owners let me hunt on their place. I know the whole land by heart. So they got most of their stands probably about 15 yrds away from our line. They have been on our land and knows that we have better whitetail habitat. They came down to our house one day and talked to my dad and myself. They asked if they could hunt on our place, dad and I said no. They asked if they shot a deer and it ran on our place then could they recover it without our permision. Dad said he would like to get a phone call first, then it would be ok. I said it goes both ways, if my deer goes over there then I should be able to go over there after get ahold of them. They said they will not allow me to recover my deer on their place, but wants us to let them on our land....WTH??? lol About three days ago I took a walk on our property and looked over at their line and seen three more treestands closer to the line. I then seen four plastic cups on our side. It was about 30 yrds from my stand and about 200 yards from the property line.... I sure hope we don't have a big war with these guys. I am not going to do anything unethical and go on there place and start crap. If I get them on my StealthCam my dad will come unglued. It really peed my dad off that they put up no trespassing signs on their side, but will place their stands as close as they can to the property line.... 92xj
man thats a tough spot to be in. It stinks that you have to deal with it, but something will hopefully work out with them. Worse case get the law involved, but I would make that last resort
stevebeilgard
first, just go over and speak with them. tell them what you saw, and let them tell whoever owns the stands (lol) that they will lose them next time. then, take the stands over to your house and let them come and get them. also, maybe tell the county sheriff what you discussed with them. wtnhunt
Yep, goes both ways. Just make sure you anchor any deer you shoot. Far as the cups, they may have blown across the line??? Surprised the Amish folks are litterbugs.

Yep! Great advice here. Get your sheriff or ECO involved before the trouble starts. It always good to have the law on your side.. Where is SRA when we need an Amish translator? Mr. Beilgard, Their stands are on their property, but very close to the line and our property. They have about 3 stands that are about 50 yrds from each other. They want to be on our land, they just aren't.

Casey
the cups could have blown over to our place.... you are right about that. I just don't want to see it on our place though.
Dawg
Hey Ken, They do have cell phones. Sheesh, Amish with cell phones.......what's this world coming to? Pretty touchy situation you got here. I'd keep watch for now. Set up some trail cams on the property line, with the line in plain view if possible and see if they are in fact coming across to your side. Solid evidence goes a lot further than suspision in cases like this.
Dakota
I agree, get a solid amount of evidence that they are on your land first. While you may not like it, they can do all they please on their side of the fence and there's nothing you can do about that, but once they cross that fence you got 'em. hoythunter37
I would have to agree with almost everyone. Then one thing I would do/watch out for is setting up trail cams real close. I am not saying that they will steal it but if someone is that way I dont think I would trust a trail cam that close to the fence who know they may snatch it up from ya. layin on the smackdown
Hey Ken, They do have cell phones. I use to work at a park that was mostly ran by Amish people, and located in the heart of Amish community (Rockome Gardens, Arcola IL). The only Amish people who had cells were ones that owned a business. Most Amish do have phones, but it is against religion to have them in the house, so they keep them in the barn for emergency purposes. Regarding the land issue. From my experience, and i hate to be so stereotypical, but if they want it they will get it, regardless...we had major issues with local Amish guys tresspassing onto park property to bow hunt... I agree with the above, talk to local law enforcement. Amish people are extremely hard headed and very set in their ways; and like stated above, the road generally doesn't go both ways with them...its their way or no way. okiedog
Conceal the cameras very well, and cover the flash and red l.e.d. light with electrical tape. If there looks to be a spot on the fence you think they may be crossing , mount the camera high in the tree facing down towards the crossing. wtnhunt
If amish folks can have spinners on their buggies, why not have cell phones too.:D On your cams, might consider putting them up high in trees looking downward angled to the line. IIf your cams are able to, you could also set them to daytime only operation. Nice thing about my homebrews, not only can I set them to run daytime only, but can also turn the flash completely off.
