92xj
anybody have any first hand experience with these? pros and cons? I know they limit the rest options but what else? I am not sure what my opinion is on them yet, I would like to shoot a few, but I was just curious about any body else's opinion. Thanks
okiedog
I've got a few laying around in the shop. I have shot them at different distances and they fly really well. I never hunted with them. I like the thought of it "popping" off on a pass through, leaving a marker of where the animal was standing. I might try them someday. I just can not get away from feathers for hunting, and I still think feathers look and fly awesome.
92xj
the whole popping off thing would be kind of cool, knowing exactly where the animal stood, The only thing I am wondering is why is there a need for the outer ring around the 3 "fletchings". The ring is what limits the rest options, so why not eliminate it? They could be made exactly the same without it and still do the same thing???? BowJoe
I just bought some of these and am waiting on their arrival. From my understanding, they are like the difference in a prop plane and a jet engine. A prop plane has, of course, a propeller and a jet engine is a forced air design. The ring ensures a stabilizing effect for balance as well as direction of air being forced in between the blades of the fob. Propellers have open ended blades that simply move the air that is around them instead of it being forced in between them. Not to mention they have no give when making contact with rest prongs or a whisker biscuit. One slight touch is all it would take to blow up an arrow or do some real damage to a bow. Either way, I still think a drop away is the way to go. I haven't shot one of these yet but the principles are aerodynamically sound. Does anyone remember the toy guns when you were a kid that had the disc with a prop and you wound it up, aimed it into the air and pulled the trigger. That disc shot up about 20 or 30 feet. Same principle.

The outer ring or air foil is what actually makes FOB's so awesome. The inventor of FOB's has a backround in rocket science as an engineer, and is a great guy. FOB's are awesome for hunting,as they were actually invented to steer large fixed blade B.heads. They also have very little crosswind drift on those windy days. It's also pretty cool being able to fletch a doz arrows in a few minutes.
